Introduction

Some 2019 – 2022 model year RX 350 and 2018 – 2022 model year RX 450h vehicles may
exhibit a rattle noise from the sliding roof assembly when it is in the tilted open position while
driving over a bumpy road. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

Replace the Adjustment Nuts, and Reinstall the

 This repair is covered under the Lexus Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

Repair Procedure

1. Confirm the condition exists.
Does the vehicle exhibit a rattle noise from the sliding roof assembly when it is in the tilted
open position while driving over a bumpy road?


YES — Continue to step 2.



NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.

2. Remove the sliding roof glass sub-assembly.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:


2019 / 2020 / 2021 / 2022 RX 350:
Vehicle Exterior – Sliding Roof/Convertible: “Sliding Roof / Convertible: Sliding Roof
Housing (for Sliding Roof): Removal”



2018 / 2019 / 2020 / 2021 / 2022 RX 450h:

Housing (for Sliding Roof): Removal”

3. Inspect the sliding roof drive cable
sub-assembly for looseness and a rattle
noise with a wiggle check as shown.
Can rattle noise be confirmed at the mating
part of the mechanical bracket and
rear shoe?


YES — Replace the sliding roof drive
cable sub-assembly according
to the applicable model and
model year Repair Manual.



NO — Continue to step 4.

4. Remove the adjustment nuts.
A. Remove the nut covers by gently
inserting the removal tool and twisting.

B. Remove the adjustment nuts by pulling
them out of the mechanical bracket.

6. Clean and apply NEW grease to
the contact areas of the
mechanical bracket.

9. Reinstall the adjustment nut to the
mechanical bracket.

10. Push down the nut cover from the top of
the mechanical bracket and insert it firmly.

11. Reinstall the sliding roof glass sub-assembly.

12. Function the sliding roof assembly (open and close) to make sure there is NO abnormal
noise during sliding roof operation.

13. Confirm the condition no longer exists.
Does the vehicle exhibit a rattle noise from the sliding roof assembly at the titled open
position while driving over a bumpy road?


YES — Replace the sliding roof drive cable sub assembly according to the applicable
model and model year Repair Manual.



NO — The repair is complete.
