INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT (SA501)
This bulletin provides information to inspect and, if necessary, replace the brake pedal assembly on some
2022MY Forte (BD/BDm) vehicles produced from March 17, 2022 through April 27, 2022, which may have
improper welding between the cowl bracket and brake member, that may result in squeak or pop noise during
brake pedal application. This issue does not affect brake performance. Follow the procedure outlined in this
publication to identify and replace affected brake pedal assemblies. Before conducting the procedure, verify
that the vehicle is included in the list of affected VINs.

NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the
warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the warranty period will
require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service → Warranty Coverage → Warranty Coverage
Inquiry → Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service Action reports are available on
WebDCS (Consumer Affairs → Not Completed Recall → Recall VIN → Select Report), which includes
a list of affected vehicles.

Inspection Procedure:
1a.
Locate the brake pedal assembly (A) and look
for a painted blue dot (B) on the flat surface of
the brake pedal assembly bracket, above the
brake pedal switch (C) where shown.

Identify the color of the dot on the area shown:

Blue (NG): Proceed to the ‘Replacement
Procedure’ below to replace the brake
pedal assembly.

Other color (OK): If the dot is any color
other than blue, this service action is
complete. No further action is required.

Replacement Procedure:
1.
Remove and replace the brake pedal assembly
(A) by referring to the “Brake System → Brake
System → Brake Pedal → Repair procedures”
chapter in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.

Tightening torque for mounting nuts:
12.3 – 18.8 lb.ft (16.7 – 25.5 N.m)

Note: The new brake pedal assembly also
includes a new ‘pre-adjusted’ brake switch (B).
2.
Reinstall all removed parts in reverse order of
removal.
3.
Confirm normal operation of the brake pedal
and brake lights.
