overfilled, the EVIC may display low fluid level (20 - 22%).

DIAGNOSIS:
Using wiTECH with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT,
verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present record them on
the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the
Repair Procedure.

NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2
volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the
flash process.
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
NOTE: wiTECH may erroneously give an error message at the conclusion of the
download stating the that the flash was not successful. If there is an error
message after the flash has completed, first confirm that the DTC U1601 is
not present and that the P/N has been updated. If so, start the engine to
confirm the flash was successful. If DTC U1601 is present, OR the P/N did not
update, OR the engine did not start, the flash may have been unsuccessful.
Restart the flash update.
1. Reprogram the ECM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures
available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > 8E Electronic Control Modules > MODULE, Engine Control, Diesel > Standard Procedure
> PCM/ECM Programming - DIESEL. After PCM reprogramming has completed
successfully, the following must be performed:
a. Power down the PCM (key off) after flash. Trucks must have key off for 75 seconds.
b. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming.
The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTC's after the flash and
allow the tech to clear them.
NOTE: If a DTC of U010E is set AFTER programming, cycle the key OFF for 75
seconds and then clear the fault even though it may be active.
2. Type the necessary information on the “Authorized Modification Label” and attach it
near the VECI label.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Warning Messages — Chassis Cab
Only
There are three different messages which are displayed if the vehicle detects that the DEF
system has been filled with a fluid other than DEF, has experienced component failures, or
when tampering has been detected. The vehicle will not start if the DEF system is not
serviced within less than 250 miles (402 km) of a fault being detected. When the DEF
system needs to be serviced the following warnings will display:
Service DEF System - See Dealer
This message will display when the fault is initially detected, each time the vehicle is
started, and periodically during driving. The message will be accompanied by a single
chime. We recommend you drive to your nearest authorized dealer and have your vehicle
serviced as soon as possible.
Service DEF System Engine Will Not Start In 200 Miles - See Dealer
This message will display if the DEF system has not been serviced after the “Service DEF
System - See Dealer” message is displayed. This message will continuously display until
the mileage counter reaches zero, and will be accompanied by a periodic chime. The
message will continue to countdown until it reaches zero unless the vehicle is serviced.
We recommend you drive to your nearest authorized dealer and have your vehicle
serviced immediately.
NOTE: Under some circumstances this mileage counter may start with a value of
less than 200 miles (322 km). For example, if recurring faults are detected in a
time interval of less than 40 hours, the counter may restart at the value where
it stopped when a previous fault was temporarily remedied, or at a minimum
of 50 miles (80 km).
Service DEF System Engine Will Not Start - See Dealer
This message will continuously display when the mileage counter reaches zero, and will be
accompanied by a periodic chime. The engine will not restart after it has been turned off,
your vehicle will require towing, see your authorized dealer for service.
NOTE: When this message is displayed, the engine will no longer start after it has
been turned off.
