SERVICE ACTION: OIL FILTER AND COOLER HOUSING
O-RING GASKET REPLACEMENT (SA500)
 NOTICE
This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. New/revised sections of this
bulletin are indicated by a black bar in the margin area.
This bulletin provides information to replace the oil filter and cooler O-ring gaskets on some 2022MY Carnival
(KA4) vehicles produced from September 27, 2021 through January 27, 2022, which may exhibit oil leakage
due to poor sealing of the oil filter and cooler assembly O-ring gaskets. Follow the procedure outlined in this
publication to replace the O-rings and gaskets. Before conducting the procedure, verify that the vehicle is
included in the list of affected VINs.
Oil Filter & Cooler Assy O-Rings

 NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed during the
warranty period. Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the warranty period will
require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service → Warranty Coverage → Warranty Coverage
Inquiry → Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service Action reports are available on
WebDCS (Consumer Affairs → Not Completed Recall → Recall VIN → Select Report), which includes
a list of affected vehicles.
This issue number is SA500.

Repair Procedure:
1.

Remove the engine under cover (A) by referring
to the “Engine Mechanical System → Engine
and Transaxle Assembly → Engine Room Under
Cover → Removal and Installation” chapter in
the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.

Remove the engine coolant drain plug (B) to
drain the engine coolant.

Remove the right front wheel.

4.

Remove the front wheel guard (C) as shown by
referring to the “Body (Interior and Exterior) →
Body Side Molding → Front Wheel Guard →
Removal and Installation” in the applicable
Shop Manual on KGIS.

Remove the four (4) oil filter and cooler
assembly (D) retaining bolts (E) and retaining
one (1) nut (F).

Tightening torque for Bolts (E) and nut (F):
14.5 – 15.9 lb.ft (19.6 – 21.6 N.m)

Replace the two (2) O-rings (G) and two (2)
gaskets (H) with the new parts.

When replacing the O-rings and
gaskets, be careful to NOT let foreign

materials or dirt contaminate the oil

filter and cooler assembly. Wipe all
surrounding areas with a clean towel.
7.

Reassemble all removed parts in reverse order of removal.

 IMPORTANT
When reinstalling the oil filter, apply a small amount of oil onto the oil pan insert hole. After
reinstalling the oil filter, wipe all surrounding areas with a clean towel to remove any foreign
materials or dirt.
8a.

Replenish engine oil and coolant levels to the full (“F”) marks, following procedures in the applicable
Shop Manual on KGIS.

8b.

Bleed the coolant system using KDS, by referring to the “Engine Mechanical System → Cooling System
→ Coolant → Repair Procedures → Engine Coolant Refilling and Air Bleeding” chapter in the applicable
Shop Manual on KGIS.

8c.

Run the engine to ensure it is not overheating and there are no coolant or engine oil leaks visible prior
to vehicle release back to the customer.
Note: Refer to the Required Parts table on page 4 for recommended products and quantities.
