INSTRUCTION TO SERVICE

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED ACCORDING TO ACCEPTED INDUSTRY STANDARDS
AND LOCAL/PROPERTY REQUIREMENTS.
PROCEDURE:
1. Park the bus over a service pit or where it can be raised up. Apply parking brake.
2. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the “OFF” position. Place wheel chocks underneath the front wheels.
3. Inside the bus, locate the six cantilever seats. The below procedure details how to add pedestals underneath
these six seats. Refer to Figure 1.

Note: the following steps need to be done underneath the bus. If bus lift is used, ensure to follow the
recommended safety instructions detailed in the New Flyer Maintenance manual and the instructions
noted on the lift. Only trained personnel can operate bus lift. Place jack stands underneath the official
jacking pads.
4. Underneath the bus, install six backing plates (PN 964411) to the locations shown on the drawings below
according to the followings:
a.

Clean mounting surface by using a wire brush and scraper.

b.

Mark the hole locations as shown on the drawings below and drill .397” diameter (drill size X) holes. Note
that there are two different distances between holes (6.87” or 8”) depending on locations
(depending on seat pedestals). Each backing plate has 3 holes to accommodate both type of
hole patterns. Use a backing plate as a template when drilling holes. Refer to Figures 2 and 3.

Remove burr around holes.

d.

Degrease mating surfaces of the floor and plates with a lint free cloth lightly soaked with denatured
alcohol.

e.

Apply a bead of Sika 221 adhesive (PN 055701) around the inside perimeter of the backing plates and
bond them to the bottom side of flooring as show on the drawings below. Refer to Figures 2 and 3.

5. Inside the bus inspect the securement of the six cantilever seats. Ensure there is no gap between the upper
seat track and the side wall. Remove rubber insert and ensure all mounting rivets of the upper seat track are
present and tight. If seat track is loose or rivets are missing, then repair seat track securement per ITS-59048.
Refer to Figure 4.

6. Carefully loosen acorn nuts at the upper and lower seat brackets just enough to be able to move the seats
back and forward or up and down as required. The bottom of the upper seat bracket must be ¼” from the
ledge surface of the upper seat track. Refer to Figure 4.
7. Place the matching pedestal underneath the seat and secure it to the bottom of the seat frame with 4 ea. 3/81.25 L bolts (PN 20B06020), 8 ea. flat washers (PN 50W06000) and 4 ea. nuts (PN 42N06000). Leave bolts
loose so the pedestal can be adjusted if required. Refer to Figures 5,6 and 7.

8. If required, move seat and/or pedestal until the holes at the bottom of the pedestal align with the recently
drilled holes on the floor.
9. Place 1 ea. flat washer (PN 50W06000) onto each 3/8-2.0L 2 ea. bolts (PN 20B06032) and push them
through the pedestal and the floor. Place flat washer and nut (PN 42N06000) on each bolt underneath floor.
Refer to Figure 7.

10. Ensure the T-bolts are fully engaged in the upper and lower seat tracks. Refer to Figure 8.

11. Apply two small drops of medium strength Loctite 243 thread locker (PN 081034) onto the first two threads
of each acorn nut that were loosen. If new T-bolts are used (with supplier installed thread locker adhesive is
applied on the threads already) then additional Loctite is not required on the threads of the acorn nut. Torque
the acorn nuts to 25 ±5 ft-lbs. Apply torque seal onto acorn nuts.
12. Ensure all bolts of the pedestal (seat-side and floor-side) are aligned correctly then torque them to 35 ft-lbs.
13. Perform the work detailed between Step 6 and 12 on the rest of the five cantilever seats.
14. Reinstall rubber insert into the upper seat track. Refer to Figure 4.
15. Apply Sikaflex 221 Sealer (PN 055701) over the nuts underneath the floor to prevent water intrusion.
16. Apply undercoating (PN 606947) onto the backing plates and surrounding area where undercoating was
removed previously.
17. When rework is completed, remove all tools and debris and return the bus to service condition.
18. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the “ON” position.
