Purpose: This kit includes parts and instructions to make enhancements to tongue.
Special tools and conditions:
• None
Unless indicated, new parts from kit have callouts with numbers. Callouts with letters indicate
existing parts or general items.
WARNING: Raised load can shift or fall. Death or serious injury could be
possible if struck or crushed by falling load. Never allow anyone under a
raised load unless load is securely supported to prevent it from shifting or
falling.
WARNING: Failure to use shutdown procedure can result in unexpected
hazard(s). Death or serious injury could result due to entanglement, crushing,
cutting or other hazardous contact. Follow shutdown procedure after
operating, before performing any service or maintenance and before
transporting.
Shutdown procedure: BC1200XL
NOTICE: For your safety and the safety of others, use shutdown procedure before working on the
machine for any reason, including servicing, unclogging, inspecting or transporting the chipper.
A variation of this procedure may be used if so instructed within this manual, or if an emergency requires it.
1. Return upper feed control bar to stop position.
2. Move cutter engage/throttle lever to engaged/low
rpm position.
NOTICE: Whenever practical and consistent with
good safety practice, run engine without load for a few
minutes before shutting off. This allows engine
temperatures to decrease and equalize.
3. Wait for the cutter drum to slow.
4. Move cutter engage/throttle lever to disengaged/low rpm
position.
5. If so equipped, shut off remote control if in use.
6. Shut off engine and remove key.
7. Wait for the cutter drum and belt to stop.
NOTICE: Cutter drum rotation can be checked by looking at
the end of the shaft (1) on the left side of the cutter wheel
housing. The cutter drum will continue to turn for a short time
after the engine has stopped.

3. Remove and retain nut (A), screw (B), clamp (C) and trailer harness (D) from tongue.

5. Remove and discard two bolts, washers and nuts that attach tongue to frame.

2. Attach suitable lifting device to tongue (1) and insert tongue into frame. Weight of tongue is
approximately 135 lb (61 kg).
3. Attach tongue (1) to frame using two pin hitches (2), 12 washers (3), two bolts (4) and two nuts (5).

4. Attach pintle hitch (6) to weldment face using pintle spacer plate (7), two backing spacer plates (8),
eight washers (9), four screws (10) and four nuts (11). Torque nuts (11) to 282 ft-lb (382 Nm).

5. Attach retained trailer harness (D) using clamp (C), screw (B) and nut (A).
6. Insert retained grommet (E) in tongue.

7. Attach two safety chains (12) to tongue using two washers (13) and two screws (14). Torque screws
(14) to 80 ft-lb (108 Nm).

8. Slip two safety chains (12) through slots on face plate for chain slack take-up. Attach locking plate (15)
to weldment face using two clevis pins (16) and two locking cotter pins (17).

9. Remove Figures 1 – 4 and attach to invoice or place in manual storage box so unit owner can place
with existing parts manual.
