Some customers may comment on seeing water leaks in the rear cargo areas, or from
around the windshield of the vehicle.

Cause

The cause of the condition may be caused by multiple factors that inhibit the ability of the
factory installed sealants to seal the upper structure.

Correction

For vehicles exhibiting this condition, follow the repair steps in the Service Procedure
below.

Important: This technical service bulletin (TSB) can
only be completed by BrightDrop dealers or
BrightDrop certified repair facilities who have met
all BrightDrop specific training, tool and equipment
requirements. Repairs must be performed by a
technician who has successfully completed the
required training.

Service Procedure
Important: Service agents must comply with all
International, Federal, State, Provincial, and/or Local
laws applicable to the activities it performs under this
bulletin, including but not limited to handling, deploying,
preparing, classifying, packaging, marking, labeling,
and shipping dangerous goods. In the event of a
conflict between the procedures set forth in this bulletin
and the laws that apply to your dealership, you must
follow those applicable laws.
1. Remove the roof panel joint front finish moldings
from both sides of the vehicle, and discard.

1.1. Starting on either side, use a suitable work
platform to access the front upper roof. An
example of a suitable platform is shown in the
graphic above.

2. Remove side drip rails from both sides of vehicle.

1.2. Using a flat blade screwdriver, or other pry
tool, place tool in gap between the roof panel
joint front finish molding and aluminum drip
rail. Pry front finish molding forward
approximately 12.7 –19 mm. (0.5 – 0.75 in.) to
disengage clips from cover

1.3. Rotate the back of the roof finish molding
outboard from vehicle while pushing the front
corner towards the center of the vehicle to
disengage front clip.
1.4. Lift the finish molding from the vehicle and
discard.
1.5. Repeat steps 1.1 – 1.4 on the opposite side of
the vehicle.

2.1. Continuing on same side of vehicle, remove
fasteners from the drip rail.
2.2. Remove the divertor drain from rear of vehicle
by pulling forward to disengage the clip.

2.3. With help from a second person, lift the drip
rail from vehicle and store in vehicle.
2.4. Repeat steps 2.1 – 2.3 on the opposite side of
the vehicle.

3. Remove 4 fasteners from the rear trim to allow
access underneath rear trim covers.

4. Clean and prep both sides of the vehicle.
4.1. Using a trim knife and scraper or wire wheel,
remove any exposed sealer and/or urethane
from vehicle.

4.2. Cut and remove sealer and/or urethane from
roof marriage joint.

Important: Knife blade should enter no more than
12.7 mm. (0.5 in.) under the cap.
4.3. Cut and remove sealer and/or urethane from
front underneath roof cap.

Note: Always use a fresh pad to polish the aluminum.
Never reuse a buffing pad.
4.6. Using a 90 grinder with buffing pad (Scotch
bright or similar) remove any remaining sealer
or urethane from aluminum surfaces.
4.7. Use an air blow gun to blow and debris and
water from all seams.

4.4. Make two passes, one on underside of white
roof panel and one on top side of bare
aluminum panel.
4.5. Pull out any strips of sealer and urethane
found.

4.8. Wipe aluminum surfaces with Kent Acrysol,
P20005, or equivalent, to remove any residual
sealer or urethane.
4.9. Wipe down all aluminum surfaces with 70%
Isopropyl Alcohol

5. Below are graphics of the surfaces prepared,
cleaned and, ready for sealer application.

Note: The graphics below show a black sealer being
applied, for illustration purposes only. However, white
sealer is recommended, as it shows gaps and holes
better than black.
6. Apply Kent® Quick Seal MSP Seam Sealer Kit #
KT15176 (White), or equivalent, to all seams on
both sides of the vehicle.

6.1. Make sure to put nozzle tip under roof cap to
fill void.
6.2. Slowly move sealer tip along gap allowing
sealer to fill void and squeeze out.

6.3. Use a small disposable brush to brush bead
and press sealer deeper into voids.
6.4. Apply additional sealer as necessary, and
brush again.

6.5. Inspect sealer application for voids and gaps.
6.6. Inspect roof bolts and add sealer to any
fastener where the mounting hole is visible.

6.7. Add sealer around base of nut 10 fasteners
on each side under the drip rail.

6.8. Add sealer around base of the nuts and 3
threaded fasteners on each side at A - Pillar.

7. Apply different sealers to the forward cross-car
seam (1) AND the two fore/aft roof seams (2),
following the repair steps below:
Note: This sealer is self levelling, so allow time for it to
flow into holes and gaps.
7.1. Apply a small bead of Kent High Tech Seam
Sealer, P10200 or Wurth Euroseal Gel Clear
18920104, or equivalent, to the for/aft
seams (2).

Note: Do not attempt skiving without using Acrysol.
7.2. Smooth out the seam sealer with a light spray
of Kent Acrysol and a skiving tool.
7.3. Clean the surface of the forward cross car
seam (1) with Kent Acrysol and apply Kent
KT15176 white seam sealer underneath
aluminum roof panel.
7.4. Wipe squeeze out with a brush to force it
under the panel. Check for any holes or gaps
and apply additional sealer if necessary.

Important: Allow sealer to cure for minimum 12 hours
before water testing. During the sealer curing process,
the vehicle cannot be subjected to water or rain. If rain
is forecast, the vehicle must remain indoors until the full
cure time is achieved. Every attempt should be made to
not drive the vehicle during the curing process. If the
vehicle must be moved, minimize the distance as much
as possible and ensure the vehicle is only driven on
smooth surfaces until it can be parked safely.
8. Water test using approved test procedure. Root
cause the location of any remaining leaks and
apply additional sealer as necessary.

9. If no leaks are present, install new left and right
roof panel joint front finish moldings, and install all
trim. Return the vehicle to service.
