Condition
The PACCAR MX-13 J2 engine harness may not be properly secured and can rub against a huck bolt. This rubbing
may cause excess wear that can result in an electrical short and DTCs being set. (See background section for DTC
list.)

Chassis Affected
​ ,086 (2009 US and 77 Canadian) Model Year 2021 579 chassis manufactured from 5/01/2021 through
2
10/12/2021 and equipped with a PACCAR MX-13 engine.

Action
Campaign
Service all affected chassis that enter your dealership, even if the customer has no issue with the chassis.
1. Review the attached chassis list for your dealer code and schedule your customer(s) for service if their
chassis is on the list.
2. If you are not using Service Management to start repair orders, review SIR for “Complete” or "In
Process" next to the “E291” campaign code prior to performing this repair.
3. Follow the procedure below to secure the harness. Refer to bulletin 34-066 to determine the severity of
harness damage. If the harness is damaged, replacement approval must be obtained before performing
the harness replacement.
This campaign can be performed at any time convenient for the customer (for example: during the next
scheduled maintenance interval).

For repairs completed by 07/01/2023, Peterbilt will pay for parts at dealer net plus applicable mark-up and
labor:
Select the Quick Claim from the Recommended Repair section.
Non-Delco Alternator Equipped Chassis
0.3 hours labor to inspect the PACCAR MX-13 J2 harness for damage and secure the harness. Use Quick
Claim code E291A.
2.9 hours labor to R&R the PACCAR MX-13 J2 engine harness if it has been determined that the engine
harness should be replaced. Use Quick Claim E291B
Photos of the damaged harness are required when filing a claim.
Delco Alternator Equipped Chassis (ladder bracket included)
0.3 hours labor to inspect the PACCAR MX-13 J2 harness for damage and secure the harness using the
suggested ladder bracket. Use Quick Claim code E291C
2.9 hours labor to R&R the PACCAR MX-13 J2 engine harness if it has been determined that the engine
harness should be replaced. Use Quick Claim E291D
Photos of the damaged harness are required when filing a claim.
When replacing the J2 engine harness, please include any supporting documentation and images
with the claim.
Per the Authorization of Warranty policy bulletin, all claims concerning modifications to the electrical
system will require before and after photographs and a repair authorization.
File the claim within 14 days in accordance with the Warranty Policy.

Background
Potential DTCs that are set due to the harness rubbing:
P3511 – Pump module – Voltage too low or short circuit to ground – on ECU (P046) pin (D22).
P3520 – Tank heater valve – short circuit to ground – on ECU (P046) pin (D36).
P3831 – Fuel shutoff valve – Current too low or open circuit – on ECU (P046) pin (D32).
P3842 – Air shutoff valve – Current too low or open circuit – on ECU (P046) pin (D35).
P3891 – Tank heater valve – Current too low or open circuit – on ECU (P046) pin (D36).
P3904 – Pump module – Current too low or open circuit – on ECU (P046) pin (D22).

Procedure
Please follow your dealership's safety procedures and precautions to ensure the vehicle can be safely repaired
and maintained.
Harness Inspection
Locate and inspect the J2 engine harness for damage.
Using a cable tie, secure the J2 engine harness away from the potential rub location. See image below
for reference.
