SITUATION
The Check Control message “Door open” appears in the instrument cluster (Kombi) even though all vehicle
doors are securely closed and locked.
The locking operation of the doors is not affected.
The following faults are saved in the fault memory of the Body Domain Controller (BDC):
804157 - Door contact, driver's door: Short circuit to ground
and/or
804158 - Door contact, front passenger door: Short circuit to ground
and/or
804159 - Door contact, driver's door rear/bottom: Short circuit to ground
and/or
80415A - Door contact, front passenger door rear/bottom: Short circuit to ground

CAUSE
Faulty solder joints in the body domain controller (BDC) can create a false report that one or more of the
vehicle’s doors are open.

CORRECTION
Should an identified Model vehicle arrive with the situation described above, perform diagnosis. If required,
replace the BDC control unit according to repair instruction 61 35 278.

or AIR which takes into account specific equipment and/or options.

During this workshop visit, the affected vehicle may also show one or more programming and encoding
Technical Campaign repairs open, the programming and encoding procedure may only be invoiced one
time.
Select one of these open Technical Campaigns to perform and submit for updating the vehicle to the
required I-level or higher instead.
Please be sure to also perform any additional before and/or after work (including attaching labels)
as required by the open campaigns on the vehicle. Close any other open programming and
encoding Campaign repairs as outlined in the corresponding Service Information Bulletin.
Only if the situation above does not apply, the additional flat rate labor operation codes listed in first section
to perform the programming and encoding procedure are then claimable within the work procedure and
coverage guidelines described in this bulletin.
Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units (RO and Claim Comments Required)
This procedure automatically reprograms and encodes any vehicle control modules that do not have the
latest software I-level.
If one or more control modules fail during the reprogramming procedure, claim the required consequential
repair work procedures to address this issue (including performing the IRAP Control Unit Recovery first as

required, refer to the SIB in AIR) under the Defect Code in this bulletin with the labor operations in AIR that
apply.
Please explain the additional work procedures that were performed (The why and the what) on the repair
order and in the claim comments.
For covered repairs that address control module failures that occurred prior to performing this
reprogramming procedure, claim this work with the Defect Code and labor operations (including diagnosis)
in AIR that apply.
*Based on which one applies to your dealer, please refer to SI M01 01 20 or M01 04 20 for the applicable
procedure for documenting, claiming, and explaining, on the RO and in the claim comments, your diagnosis
work time (WT), job/repair work time (WT), and the vehicle repairs your dealer performed, unless otherwise
required by State law.

If other eligible and covered work is performed because of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test
plans, claim this work with the applicable defect code and the labor operations listed in AIR (including
