CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: An audible boom may be heard or vibration may be felt through the floor pan or front seat at
2,400 - 2,800 rpm during medium to heavy acceleration (not during cruise or light load situations).
Cause: This may be caused by powertrain torsion mode where the transfer box is effectively twisting on the
rear of the transmission.
NOTE: The issue is best confirmed while using Commandshift® manual mode and accelerating
through the rpm range.
Action: In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to
install a transfer case carrier damper.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 100-02 and raise and
support the vehicle.
2. Install the damper (IAI500100) and fixing bolt (IYP500080) to
the unused threaded hole in the transfer case.
• Torque the bolt to 55Nm (41lbf-ft).

3. Refer to Workshop Manual section 100-02 and lower the
vehicle.
