Internal Content

1. INTRODUCTION
This guide shows how to add external speed controls to the V-MAC III
electronics, while preserving the integrity of the OEM harnesses. Building
an overlay harness that can be interfaced with existing harness terminals
and routing it through spare cavities in the bulkhead will insure trouble
free remote speed control operation. This guide is intended for MackeBay logo
Dealer and Body Builder use only. The three types of controls covered
include:

Remote Pedal Installation
Remote Variable Speed Accel/Decel Switch Control Installation
Remote SSC or VSC PTO 1 Control Switch Installation
Remote SSC or VSC PTO 2 (Driveshaft) Control Switch Installation
2. INSTALLATION GUIDE
2.1 Remote Pedal
2.1.1 General Information
NOTE: Mack TruckseBay logo, Inc. prefers that a V-MAC engine speed control
system be used in place of a remote throttle pedal. However, if a remote
pedal must be used, then use the following guidelines.
For OEMs and Customers that want to control the engine speed
externally with an additional Throttle Position Sensor pedal assembly
(4QB47, 4QB50, or 4QB51), the following parts list and diagram illustrates
how to build a remote pedal overlay wiring harness. The overlay harness
will insure that the MackeBay logo Cab Harness will not be compromised. This
wiring arrangement will deliver reliable fault free operation (5-1 and 5-2
V-MAC fault codes). When the cab TPS pedal assembly is active, the
remote TPS is dead. The pedal select switch will activate only one TPS
pedal assembly. Note: 18 AWG wire conductors must be used to connect
the circuits.

2.1.3 Wiring Instructions

Assemble the jumper overlay harness per Figure 1.
Route and clamp the pedal select switch harness behind the dash
panel (“D” panel for CH/CL).

Make provisions to mount the pedal select switch to the dash panel.
Then, connect the switch to the overlay harness and mount the
switch.
Route and clamp the overlay harness Cab TPS connectors
(925AM29 and 925AM28) behind the dash panel.
Disconnect the 925AM29 Cab TPS connector from the 925AM28
Cab harness connector. Then, connect the 925AM29 Cab TPS
connector to the overlay harness and the 925AM28 Cab harness
connector to the overlay harness.
Route and clamp the remote TPS connector and harness behind
the dash and through the bulkhead.

2.2 Remote Variable Speed Accel/Decel Switch Control
2.2.1 General Information
For OEMs and Customers that want to control the engine speed
externally with an additional variable speed Accel/Decel switch
(1MR4285M8), the following parts list and diagram illustrates how to
build a remote VSC overlay wiring harness. The overlay harness will
insure that the MackeBay logo Cab Harness will not be compromised. For this
remote switch to operate (EHT mode), the dash mounted speed control
On/Off switch must be in the On position. If PTO 1 is programmed as a
VSC, the wiring guidelines in section “C” (Remote SSC or VSC PTO1 control
switch installation) are followed and the remote PTO 1 switch is turned
on, this remote VSC Accel/Decel switch will operate independent of the
dash mounted speed control On/Off switch. Note: 18 AWG wire
conductors must be used to connect the circuits. See Figure 2, for the
overlay wiring arrangement.

2.2.3 Wiring Instructions

Disassemble the dash panel (“D” panel CH/CL)
Disconnect the Set/Decel-Resume/Accel switch from cab harness
connector plug. Remove the 86AX393 terminals from the 598AX54
connector shell. This connector shell will not be used at the cab
Set/Decel-Resume/Accel switch. However, it will be used to
assemble the overlay harness.
Assemble the jumper overlay harness per Figure 2.
Route and clamp the jumper overlay harness behind the dash
panel (“D” panel for CH/CL).
Install a 86AX370 piggy back terminal to each blade terminal (1, 2,
and 3) on the cab Set/Decel-Resume/Accel switch.
Attach the cab harness 86AX392 terminals to the corresponding
86AX370 piggy back terminals. See Figure 2, for the correct circuit
to connector pin locations.
Attach the overlay harness 86AX392 terminals to the
corresponding 86AX370 piggy back terminals. See Figure 2, for the
correct circuit to connector pin locations.
Reassemble the dash panel.
Route and clamp the remote VSC Accel/Decel switch overlay
harness behind the dash and through the bulkhead.
Connect the remote VSC Accel/Decel switch connector to the
remote Accel/Decel switch.

2.3 Remote SSC or VSC PTO 1 Control Switch
2.3.1 General Information
For OEMs and Customers that want to control the engine speed
externally with an additional SSC or VSC PTO 1 switch (1MR4294), the
following parts list and diagrams illustrates how to build a remote SSC or
VSC PTO 1 switch overlay wiring harness. This overlay harness will not
compromise the OEM Harnesses. With the remote PTO 1 switch on, the
light in the switch will illuminate and 12 volts will be supplied to both VJ29-0.8 and VJ1-6-0.8 circuits. If the PTO1 is programmed as a single speed
control, the auto-set is enabled in the customer data parameters and the
remote PTO1 switch is turned on, the engine will ramp to the SSC set
speed when all the programmable engagement requirements are met. If
the PTO1 is programmed as a variable speed control, the minimum set
speed is set at 475 RPM and the remote PTO1 switch is turned on, the
engine will ramp between the minimum and maximum set speeds when
all the programmable engagement requirements are met. This type of
control also requires the VSC Accel/Decel switch to be toggled in the
Decel position (set) and then toggled in the Accel position to ramp the
engine. The VSC switch could be the remote switch arrangement
described in section C. Note: 18 AWG wire conductors must be used to
connect the circuits. See Figure 3 (CH/CL and R Series) and Figure 4 (MR

2.3.3 Wiring Instructions

Disassemble the dash panel (“D” for CH/CL).
Disconnect the Cruise Control On/Off switch from cab harness
connector plug. Remove the two terminals (17-A-0.8 & VJ1-6-0.8)
from the 598AX54 connector shell. This connector shell will not be
used at this switch. However, it will be used to assemble the
overlay harness.
Assemble the jumper overlay harness per Figure 3 or Figure 4.
At the Cruise Control On/Off switch position 2, connect circuit
terminal 17-A-0.8 to the switch. At the Cruise Control On/Off switch
position 3, attach a 86AX370 piggy back terminal to switch. Then,
connect both the cab and overlay harness VJ1-6-0.8 circuit
terminals to the piggy back terminal. Install the Cruise Control
On/Off switch to the dash panel.
Locate the cab harness PTO1 switch connectors (17-A0.8 & VJ2-90.8). They are labeled with a tag. If a PTO1 switch is equipped, Mark

piggy back terminal to the switch terminal that will carry the VJ2-09
circuit and connect the 17-A-0.8 circuit terminal to the other switch
position. Then, connect both the cab harness and overlay harness
circuit VJ2-9-0.8 terminals to the piggy back terminal. If a PTO1
switch is not equipped, connect both the cab and overlay harness
VJ2-9-0.8 circuit terminals to the piggy back terminal and insulate
the connection with heat shrink.
Connect the jumper harness terminal 86AX248 (from the remote
PTO switch) to the cab harness fuse 22 (CH, CL, R Series), 26 (MR),
31 (LE) spare pig tail connector. For MR and LE vehicles equipped
with an Allison Transmission, the neutral power relay signal can be
used in place of the fused switched power signal. For MR, the
spare 34-D-0.8 power relay pig tail connector can be used. For LE,
the in cab 34-C-3.0 neutral relay body power junction block post
BP8 can be used (with 598AX2, 86AX251).
Route and clamp the remote PTO1 switch overlay harness (with
diode) behind the dash and through the bulkhead.
Assemble the dash panels.
Connect the remote SSC PTO switch connector to the remote PTO
switch.
Connect the remote PTO switch ground (BK-0.8) to a chassis
ground point.

2.4.1 General Information

externally with an additional SSC or VSC driveshaft PTO 2 switch
(1MR4294), the following parts list and diagrams illustrates how to build
a remote SSC or VSC PTO 2 switch overlay wiring harness. This overlay
harness will not compromise the OEM Harnesses. With the remote PTO 2
switch on, the light in the switch will illuminate and 12 volts will be
supplied to VJ2-10-0.8. If the PTO2 is programmed as a single speed
control, the auto-set is enabled in the customer data parameter, the

switch terminal 3. Then, install the 86AX370 piggy back terminal to
the switch terminal 3.
At the piggy back terminal, reconnect the cab harness terminal to
the speed control On/Off switch.
Route and clamp the jumper overlay harness behind the dash
panel (“D” panel for CH/CL).
Attach the overlay harness 86AX297 terminal (from the diode) to
the piggy back terminal.
Connect the jumper harness terminal 86AX248 (from the remote
PTO switch) to the cab harness fuse 22 (CH, CL, R Series), 26 (MR),
