This Service Bulletin cancels and replaces previously sent information.
For identification of the VINs involved, please refer to the list attached at the end of this document.
As a result of continuous monitoring of the quality of our product, it has been found that a technical update is required on the
vehicles specified above (details later in this Service Bulletin).
We ask you to update your vehicles according to the instructions in this technical communication BEFORE handing over the
vehicle to the end customer, during a maintenance service or at the first available opportunity at your workshop.

CASE 2: FOR DEALERS/IMPORTERS WHO HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE KIT BUT NEED TO REQUEST IT
WE KINDLY ASK YOU TO INSERT THE WARRANTY CLAIM ACCORDING TO YOUR CASE
CASE 1:
WARRANTY CLAIM AND LABOUR REFUND (STEP 1)
To obtain the refund for labour, a Warranty claim must be submitted using the following instructions:

Warranty type = 3 options available:
o New motorbikes in stock NOT YET REGISTERED = GX
o Motorcycles sold with activated warranty = GS
o Motorcycles sold with expired warranty = GS
Special warranty number: 2851 (to be used for all warranty types)
Operation code for labour refund: M999 and enter the time of 1h
Problem code: 080
Problem date: warranty claim insertion date
It is mandatory to include the reference "Steering damper frame bracket kit" in the notes of the warranty claim.

WARRANTY CLAIM AND LABOUR REFUND (STEP 2)
When the Warranty claim (see step 1) is validated by MV Agusta Technical Service, the process must be completed by entering
the repair date.
Please note that the insertion of the date of repair in the Warranty claim represents certification that the motorbike has been
repaired by the dealer, and also allows payment of labour for the work carried out.
NOTE: We remind you that according to the new functions and procedures of warranty management, the insertion of the date
of repair is fundamental and mandatory as per technical communication no. 004/17.

WARRANTY CLAIM AND LABOUR REFUND (STEP 2)
After validation of the Warranty Claim by the MV Agusta Technical Assistance Service, it will be necessary to wait for the
necessary material to be procured, carry out the work, and finally complete the Warranty Claim procedure by entering the date
of repair: entering the date of repair in the Warranty Claim is valid as certification that the motorbike has been repaired by the
dealer, and also allows payment of the labour for the work carried out.
NOTE: We remind you that according to the new functions and procedures of warranty management, the insertion of the date
of repair is fundamental and mandatory as per technical communication no. 004/17.
PROCEDURE FOR IDENTIFYING COMPLIANT/NON-COMPLIANT COMPONENTS:
You can check the conformity of the component to be installed by checking the dimension shown in the drawings below. THE
CORRECT DIMENSION is 31.5 mm.

Equipment needed for operations:

INSTRUCTIONS OF THE UPDATE:

Support the bike with a special front stand positioned under the triple clamp
Remove the screw securing the steering damper to the frame:

Loosen the steering damper support screw:

Remove the steering damper by pulling it sideways to gain access to the screw securing the bracket; remove
the screw and remove the steering damper bracket:

•

If the motorbike is equipped with a tank belt, remove the two front M5 belt fixing screws:

•

Loosen the three screws securing the upper triple clamp:

Apply Teflon shims in the arms of the plate in order to spread the arms so as not to damage the fork legs
during operation:

Then remove the complete triple clamp together with the ignition lockswitch. If necessary, use a rubber mallet
to remove the triple clamp:

•
Undo the two M6 screws and remove the steering damper fixing bracket supplied with the vehicle. DO NOT reuse the removed steering damper fixing bracket and the two removed M6 screws:

•
Mount the new steering damper fixing bracket code 8000D0201 using the two new screws code 60NDB2740,
with a light coat of Loctite 243 on the threads, and tighten at a torque of 8 Nm.
•
Position the triple clamp in place, following the removal operations in reverse order, taking care to bring the
clamp into contact.

Tighten the central screw (1) securing the triple clamp to a torque of 22 ÷ 24 Nm
Tighten the two front screws (2) securing the triple clamp to a torque of 16 ÷ 18 Nm

•
Refit the steering damper bracket, tightening the screw to 8 Nm using strong threadlocker 270.
•
Refit the front tank belt support by tightening the two M5 screws to a torque of 6 Nm using Loctite 243
medium thread locker.
•
Reposition the steering damper into place, taking care to stick to the positioning dimension of 38mm from
the right edge of the damper (see diagram below); then tighten the steering damper fixing screw 8000B2688 to a
torque of 4 Nm:

Lock the steering damper in place by tightening the screw on the fixing bracket, with a light coat of Loctite
243 on the thread, to a torque of 25 Nm:

Overview of tightening torques for the steering damper and its mountings:

Check that all components function correctly and make sure the handlebars have the correct rotation in both
directions.
•
Perform a vehicle dynamic test.
