DTCs P0088 and or P1025 may set as a result of the high pressure fuel pump being out of time.

Description

P0088

Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too High Bank 1

P1025

Fuel pressure regulator valve
Mechanical malfunction

Service
Monitor fuel rail pressure at idle. If the pressure is reading excessively high (over 60 bar, in many cases up to 125
bar), timing issues are suspect.
1. For 2006-2011 vehicles with KWP2000 MVB’s:


Go to Engine, Control Module OBD, Check MVB 208 and 209, field 3.

2. For 2011 and new vehicles with UDE/IDE MVB’s:


Check IDE 00182 Camshaft adaptation intake bank 1, phase position and IDE 00184 Camshaft adaptation
exhaust bank 1, phase position.

3. If these values exceed 8 degrees, the engine timing is off and the high pressure fuel pump is also out of time.


If the value reads blank or 0 then fault memory may have been cleared and has lost its adaptation. Remove
upper timing cover to check base timing. If engine is out of time proceed to repair portion. If engine is in time
then follow ODIS test plan.

Repair
1. For 2006-2007 Passat and Touareg:
 Replace both timing chains, timing chain tensioners, oil pump, oil pump gears (2x), oil pump bolt, engine oil,
and engine oil filter.
Tip:
Prime the oil pump with clean engine oil prior to installation. Do this by adding oil to the oil pump and spinning the
oil pump by hand.
Note:
Be sure to update the Engine/Motor Control Module -J623- Passat (3018), Touareg (3019).
2. For 2008 and newer vehicles:
 Replace timing chains, tensioners and guides.
