Suzuki Cylinder Block Warranty Extension
Loss of Coolant, High Coolant Temperature or Discoloration, or Burnt Odor

2009 - 2010 Grand Vitara (JB424) & 2010 Kizashi (A6B424)

If a customer states that their 2009-2010 Grand Vitara or 2010 Kizashi is losing coolant, the engine is running
hot, or there is a smell of burning coolant, the cause may possibly be due to a cracked engine cylinder block.
Suzuki has determined that in rare instances a crack may
develop in the block where the cylinder head bolt threads
end on either side of the block, which can result in coolant
loss and engine overheating.
Suzuki extended factory warranty coverage for the cylinder
block to 20 years with unlimited mileage from the original inservice date. Click here for a list of eligible units and search

to see if cracks are present with evidence of coolant leakage being the
cause of the overheating. Perform a coolant system pressure check if
necessary.

If the vehicle has other defects or excessive rust that will inhibit the
technician’s ability to successfully perform the replacement of the cylinder
block, notify the customer that these are the responsibility of the vehicle
owner and will need to be repaired prior to, or in addition to, the
replacement of the cylinder block.

If you have determined the engine block has cracked and that is the cause of the overheating, you must contact
the Suzuki Automotive TECH-LINE (714-934-1616) with clear images of the cracks, the engine serial number,
and a copy of the Repair Order (R/O) to obtain prior authorization before proceeding with any repair.
Additional customer-pay parts may be required to maintain the integrity of the repair. Suzuki suggests the
customer replace related maintenance parts (water pump, thermostat, radiator cap, serpentine belt, and
hoses) if necessary, at the same time this repair is being performed. If it is determined that the head is warped
and needs to be replaced, Suzuki will supply a bare head as part of the warranty extension, but additional
parts and labor to transfer the parts from the original head to the new head is a customer-pay expense.
