Condition

Some customers may comment on a Check Engine Light and Service Power Steering
Message displayed.
During diagnosis a technician may find DTC U0100 and/or U1814-02 set in the Power
Steering Control Module (PSCM) and fuse F6DA may be blown after a short to ground on
circuit 5985 was repaired.
Important: To verify if an attempted repair was made at a short to ground on circuit 5985,
reference Service Bulletin # 18-NA-114.
Note: Once the U0100 DTC sets, it is unrecoverable and will not clear. Rejected by
control module error message may be displayed when attempting to clear codes.

Cause

The cause of this condition may be short to ground on Circuit 5985 caused by internal
Body Control Module failure, which induces failure into Power Steering Control Module.

Correction

Replace the Body Control Module (BCM) and Power Steering Control Module.

Service Procedure
Replace the steering column. Refer to the proper
Steering Column Replacement procedure based on the
vehicle build within SI.
Once the steering column is replaced, replace the Body
Control Module. Refer to Body Control Module
Replacement (Chevrolet) in SI.
Note: Once the Body Control Module is replaced, drive
the vehicle for at least 10 minutes over 10 kph
consecutively. When complete, shut down and wait 5
minutes for the full shut-down of the EPS. If code still
does not clear perform the steering angle sensor learn
procedure and then clear the DTC’s.
