AW5771 (India only) are supplied from the factory with a YT12A-BS battery.
Motorcycles listed above that are manufactured for the Brazil market will continue to be supplied with a
YTZ-14S battery.

Warning
Under some circumstances, the battery can give off explosive gases; keep sparks, flames and cigarettes
away. Provide adequate ventilation when charging or using the battery in an enclosed space.
The battery contains sulphuric acid (electrolyte). Contact with skin or eyes may cause severe burns. Wear
protective clothing and a face shield.
If electrolyte gets on your skin, flush with water immediately.
If electrolyte gets in your eyes, flush with water for at least 15 minutes and SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION
IMMEDIATELY.
If electrolyte is swallowed, drink large quantities of water and SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY.
KEEP ELECTROLYTE OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

Warning
The battery contains harmful materials. Always keep children away from the battery whether or not it is
fitted in the motorcycle.
Do not attach jump leads to the battery, touch the battery cables together or reverse the polarity of the
cables as any of these actions may cause a spark which would ignite battery gases causing a risk of
personal injury.

Battery Commissioning and Charging
In order to correctly and safely commission a new battery, the battery commissioning procedure listed
below must be carefully followed.
This is the only battery commissioning procedure that Triumph recommends.
The procedure is designed to ensure that the battery is at its best when fitted to the motorcycle, and will
provide the best possible performance and reliability.
Failure to comply with this procedure may lead to reduced battery performance and/or shorten the life of
the battery.

Check the battery carefully for damage.

Caution
Ensure the electrolyte container part number matches the battery part number to be filled. Battery life will
be greatly reduced if the incorrect volume (either too little or too much) of acid is added to the battery.

Read the instructions and warnings delivered with the battery.
Place the battery on a flat level surface and remove the sealing foil.
Remove the battery sealing strip from the electrolyte container and save for later in this procedure.
Place the sealing strip on a clean surface, with the upper side facing downwards to avoid
contamination of the sealing strip. Do not break the seal on the electrolyte container.
Place the electrolyte container on the battery and fill the battery according to the manufacturers
instructions.
After starting to fill the battery with electrolyte, allow the battery to stand for 30 minutes with the
filling container in place.
Check that all of the electrolyte has drained from the container. Do not remove the container at this
point. If the container has not completely drained, tap the sides of the container to start the electrolyte
flowing again.
After the electrolyte has drained into the battery, allow the battery to stand with the electrolyte
container in place for a further 2 hours.
Remove the electrolyte container carefully, and dispose of immediately.
Place the sealing cap strip LOOSELY over the filling holes of the battery.
Charge the battery using the BatteryMate Battery Charger. Refer to the instructions supplied with the
BatteryMate Battery Charger.

Caution
The caps must be fitted (after charging) within two hours of filling the battery with acid. Leaving the
battery open to the atmosphere for longer than is necessary will start to reverse the chemical reaction
which takes place within the battery, greatly reducing the battery’s service life.

After charging is complete, press down firmly with both hands to seat the caps (do not use tools or
force the caps into position).
Disconnect the charger and allow the battery to stand for 1 hour before fitting to the motorcycle.
Fit the battery to the motorcycle, positive (red) lead first.

Description:

Front Fork/RSU Oil Residue

Model Affected:

All Models

During manufacture, grease is used to install the dust seals and oil to lubricate the piston seals.
This means a residue of oil and/or grease can be hidden in cavities during the manufacturing process.
When riding the motorcycle the up and down movement of the forks generates heat, therefore the grease
or oil's viscosity changes and the manufacturing residue can become visible on the outside of the fork.
Triumph and the suspension manufacturer consider this as a normal condition and not a manufacturing
defect.

Caution
Do not use household cleaning products, bleach, detergents containing any kind of solvent to clean the
forks.
Do not spray water directly into the adjuster knobs, electrical components or connectors.
Using aggressive cleaning agents or detergents will cause premature wear and or damage to the
motorcycle.
Inspect the front fork components for damage or fluid leaks.
Using the table below evaluate the condition of the front forks.

Rear Suspension Unit (RSU)

Caution

Using aggressive cleaning agents or detergents will cause premature wear and or damage to the
motorcycle.
Inspect the RSU body for external damage that might restrict the movement of internal components and
damper rod for damage or fluid leaks.
Using the table below evaluate the condition of the RSU.

Using a method that will not scratch or damage the polished surfaces, clean the external parts with a
proprietary cleaning agent and a soft lint free cloth.
Lift components like bump rubbers or rubber boots and clean all areas and cavities.
Make sure that any dirt or debris is removed.
Wipe off and dry with a clean cloth.
Inspect the damper rod for corrosion and/or pitting.
Carry out a road test and check for fluid leaks, refer to the table above.

A new clutch lifter arm was introduced from engine number 505575 on the above models. The new clutch
lifter arm is retrofittable to models from the start of production.
If replacing the clutch lifter arm, the new part may be visually different to earlier parts.
The new clutch lifter arm no longer has a pin on the shaft to retain the return spring and the spring now
fits across the lifter arm as shown below.

Parts will no longer support the old condition clutch lifter arm and any replacement will be to the new
condition.
The new part number is T1170683.

If excessive rear wheel play is discovered it is required that the rear wheel carrier is inspected and, if
necessary, replaced.
Both the inspection and replacement of the rear wheel carrier are described in the Final Drive chapter in
the Service Manual.
