REQUIREMENTS UPDATE: MODULAR BRAKE LINE KITS

Purpose for Service Bulletin
This bulletin informs dealers that Harley-Davidson has identified
incorrect information in the 2018-2021 Softail Service Manuals.
These errors have been corrected and are visible on Service
Information Portal (SIP).

Three Brake Line sections in the Softail service manual have
been updated. Each correction specifies which model year is
needed for the update.

3.15 Brake Line: Front Master Cylinder (ABS)

Actionable:
Any vehicle, component or software related issues
must be performed per service bulletin procedure.

2018 - 2021 Softail Service Manuals. The following content
was omitted and needs to be added:
Some front brake lines have been found damaged, which
we believe resulted from servicing the brake line from the
master cylinder to the manifold. The service manual has
been updated to show the correct orientation of that brake
line in relation to the manifold to prevent contact with the
lower triple clamp when handlebars are turned to full right
lock. A note was also added to the SM to inspect that the
manifold is free to rotate but should remain primarily
stationary when rotating handlebars from full left to full right.
The orientation of the brake line and behavior of the manifold
should be similar if installing P&A front brake lines on any
2018 and later Softail.

The following Service Manual content has been updated:
3.15 BRAKE LINES, BRAKE LINE: FRONT MASTER
CYLINDER (ABS), Install.

2018-2021 Softail Models: If installing Original Equipment (OE)
or P&A handlebars, make sure that OE and P&A brake lines
are routed and orientated as required per service manual and
Isheet instructions.

• See Figure 1.See Figure 2. Position brake line (1) in
orientation shown and snug tube nut (2).
• Move handlebars to full left lock and full right lock, adjust
brake line as needed.
• Tighten tube nut. Torque: 14.5–19.5 N·m (128–173 in-lbs)
Brake line tube nuts, manifold.

NOTE
In the interest of preserving customer safety and satisfaction, always check for outstanding recalls whenever any motorcycle is brought into your dealership for either maintenance or service.

• Move handlebars to full left lock and full right lock to verify
brake line routing and there is no binding of brake lines or
manifold.

NOTE
Manifold assembly should face forward, primarily stationary but
free to rotate.

• Tighten fork stem pinch bolt. Torque: 21.7–27.1 N·m
(16–20 ft-lbs)
3.20 Front Fork
The 2021 Service Manual incorrectly shows wrong specs
for FXLRS. The correct front fork fill level for 2021 FXLRS
left side Inverted fork is 5.39 in (137 mm).
The following 2021 Service Manual content has been
updated:

• Delete FXLRS from Figure 3-75. Standard Fork
Components, Item 4, found under 3.20 FRONT FORK,
DISASSEMBLE AND ASSEMBLE: STANDARD.

• Delete FXLRS from Step 1, substep b found under 3.20
FRONT FORK, DISASSEMBLE AND ASSEMBLE:
STANDARD, Disassemble, Complete Disassembly.
• Delete FXLRS from Step 9, substep b found under 3.20

3.21 Steering Head/Fork Stem and Bracket Assembly
The 2021 Service Manual incorrectly shows a First Torque
and Final Torque spec for the Fork stem pinch bolt. There
should only be one Fork stem pinch bolt spec.
