: Introduction of new mounting bracket for magnet on
engine compartment rear door (starting inhibition
system)

APPLICATION:
This product improvement is applicable to CX.. MY2020 vehicles equipped with a starting
inhibition system using proximity switches/magnets on the engine compartment rear door.

DESCRIPTION:
Van Hool has released an improved mounting bracket for magnet of the starting inhibition
system. The starting inhibition system prevents engine starting from the dashboard when the
engine compartment rear door is not closed. Instead of the previous bracket, the new bracket is
made of stainless steel, larger and thicker which makes it more reliable on the long run.
Follow the step-by-step instructions mentioned below to install this improved bracket.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The task has to be carried out by an experienced technician, trained in the operations at hand.

SPECIAL TOOLS, EQUIPMENT OR SERVICES:
This job requires no special tools, equipment or services.

PREPARATIONS:







Park the coach on a level-surfaced service pit.
Apply the parking brake and shut down the engine.
Switch off all systems and turn off the battery master switch.
Turn off the mechanical battery switch.
Put a “DO NOT OPERATE” tag on the instrument panel.
Read the entire procedure before beginning to work.

WARNING!
Observe safe shop practices at all times.

Action
Open the engine compartment rear door.
Remove the old bracket.
Clean the contact surface on the frame and threat it with anti-corrosive substance.

Secure the new bracket to the frame with two rivets from the kit. Make use of the two
existing holes (3).

Drill two additional holes in the frame as follows:

a. Use two remaining holes (2, figure 3) of the new bracket as a jig, drill 4 mm holes.
b. Additionally secure the bracket with two rivets to the frame.
c. Transfer the magnet (1, figure 3) from the old to the new bracket.
Check the gap between the proximity switch and magnet as follows:
a. Close the engine compartment rear door.
b. Measure the distance between the proximity switch and the magnet. The gap
should be between 8 and 10 mm (0.3 and 0.4 inch).
c. Change, if necessary, the position of the proximity switch by repositioning the
nuts.

Repeat steps 3 up to and including 6 for the bracket at the other side of the engine
compartment rear door.
