Condition
Some customers may comment that during a fuel-up, gasoline may spit back out of the fill
nozzle.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a fuel feed hose that may have shifted inside the fuel
tank, causing the flapper door to become blocked and allow fuel to spit back out the
nozzle.
– the fuel feed hoses inside the fuel tank can be prone to shift out of position and block
the door flapper in the ICV (tank spud) and cause fuel to come back out the filler neck.
Install two zip-ties to prevent the fuel feed hose from moving out of position.
⇒ By using two 20.3 cm (8 in) or longer zip-ties, you can tie the fuel feed hoses
back to secure them into their normal position as designed in production.
Correction
1. If required, relieve the fuel system pressure.
2. If required, drain the fuel tank.
3. Remove the fuel tank filler hose where it connects to the ICV (tank spud) at the
fuel tank.
4. Verify that the fuel feed hose is blocking the flapper door in the ICV.
⇒ If it is verified that the flapper has an obstruction causing it not to open
completely, refer to the Service Procedure below.

5. If removed, install the ICV.
1. Remove the fuel pump. Refer to Fuel Tank Fuel
Pump Module Replacement in the Service Manual.

2. Locate the fuel feed line (1).
– The lines should clear the ICV approximately 80
mm (1).
6. Verify that the flap is clear of obstructions.
7. Install the fuel pump. Refer to Fuel Tank Fuel
Pump Module Replacement in the Service Manual.

3. Using two zip-ties (1), loop each one around the

4. Tighten the zip-ties enough so that the hoses do
not get kinked.
