Air Filter Minder Gauge Replacement

MODELS INVOLVED:
International® HX ® Series trucks with Cummins X15 engine only

DEFECT DESCRIPTION:
Certain International® HX® Series trucks may have been built with an incorrect air filter
minder.

ELIGIBILITY:

This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles marked in the International® Service Portal®™
with FSC 21107. Also complete any other open campaigns listed on the Service Portal
at this time.

TOOLS REQUIRED:
No special tools are required for this procedure.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS

vehicle on hard flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and install
wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from moving in both directions.

WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, or damage to property,
always wear safe eye protection when performing vehicle maintenance.

WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, or damage to property, keep
flames or sparks away from vehicle and do not smoke while servicing the
vehicle’s batteries. Batteries expel explosive gases.

WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, or damage to property,
remove the ground cable from the negative terminal of the main vehicle battery
before disconnecting any electrical components. Always connect the ground
cable last.

Park vehicle on a level surface.

. Shift transmission into Park or Neutral and set parking brake.

Turn ignition to Key OFF position.

. Install wheel chocks.

. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable on main vehicle battery. Remove

battery terminal nut from negative cable and discard.

CAUTION! To prevent damage to property or vehicle components, remove and / or
install interior trim components carefully to avoid damage to components.

6. Disengage and remove center dash bezel (Figure 1, Item 1).

7. Disengage and reposition instrument cluster bezel (Figure 2, Item 1) slightly away
from instrument panel.

8. Disconnect headlight and cluster switches. Then remove instrument cluster bezel.

1. Auxiliary gauge trim bezel bolt

Remove auxiliary gauge trim bezel bolt (Figure 3, Item 1). Save bolt for
reinstallation.

Reposition auxiliary gauge trim bezel to access gauge connectors.
Locate and disconnect air filter minder gauge connector and hose.
Unscrew locking nut securing gauge. Save locking nut for reinstallation.
Remove air filter minder gauge and discard.

Position new air filter minder gauge to bezel and install previously removed locking
nut. Tighten locking nut securely.

Connect air filter minder gauge connector and hose to new air filter minder gauge.

Position auxiliary gauge bezel to instrument panel and install previously removed
bolt. Tighten bolt securely.

Connect headlight and cluster switches to instrument cluster bezel (Figure 2, Item

1).

Install instrument cluster bezel.
Install center dash bezel.

Using wire brush, electronic contact cleaner and compressed shop air, clean
negative battery terminal components.

21. Apply BLUE dielectric grease to battery terminal stud, negative battery cable ring
terminal, and threads of new battery stud nut.

22. Using new battery stud nut, reconnect negative battery cable to negative terminal
on main vehicle battery.

23. Using torque wrench, tighten battery stud nut to 12 - 15 lb-ft (16 - 20 Nem).

24. Remove wheel chocks.

WARRANTY CLAIMS

Warranty claim expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the
normal manner, making reference to Field Service Campaign 21107.

Section 7 of the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual contains further information
related to the submission and processing of AFC / Recall claims.

As with all claim submissions, items acquired locally must be submitted in the “Other
Charges” tab. The cost of any bulk items (Such as a bag of cable tie straps, roll of wire,
barrel of oil, or tube of silicone) should be prorated for the cost of the individual pieces /
amount used during each repair.

To make sure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for
21107 activity must be submitted by 14 September 2022 or within the normal warranty
period for the component, if after 14 September 2022.
