SM2001 Ford Powertrain Module (PCM) Remote Modifications

Models Affected: Vision (BBCV) 2013 – Current Model Year with Ford Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
Subject: Ford Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Remote Modifications
This Service Memorandum SM2001 is to “Announce a New Blue Bird Dealer Process” now available to perform a Ford Powertrain Control Module (PCM) modification remotely at the dealer service center location. This modification will
be done using the Roush Diagnostic Tool (RDT). The RDT software version 10.04.0011 or higher is required.
Blue Bird PCM changes can only be accepted for the following:
• Road Speed Governor (VSS Governor Limit)
• Tire Size
• Axle Ratio
• Cruise Control (Enable vs Disable)
• Low Idle Shutdown (5 minutes) – Note: Only available on 2016 or newer model year (Gen4)
The proceeding steps must be followed when using the RDT tool to make PCM Remote Modifications

Ford Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Modifications Request Process
Submitting a (PCM) Modification Change Request to the Blue Bird VID Parameter File
1. Blue Bird VID Parameter change requests must be submitted via a Blue Bird Bus Technical Support Ticket on Vantage.
2. A separate Blue Bird Bus Technical Support Ticket must be entered for each bus that a change requests is applicable to unless the request is for a group of buses that are all on the same Blue Bird order.
3. Please specify in the Blue Bird Bus Technical Support Ticket any known prior changes to the Blue Bird VID parameters.
Reminder-Blue Bird VID Parameter change requests can only be accepted for the following:
• Road Speed Governor (VSS Governor Limit)
• Tire Size
• Axle Ratio
• Cruise Control (Enable vs Disable)
• Low Idle Shutdown (5 minutes) – Note: Only available on 2016 or newer model year (Gen4)
4. Blue Bird VID Parameter change requests can only be approved for features available from Blue Bird on a requested bus. Example: Requests cannot be approved for a tire size that is not available from Blue Bird on a requested bus.
For accuracy and faster approval, please try to specify the Blue Bird feature number on the Blue Bird Bus Technical Support Ticket. Example: I request to change the road speed governor to Blue Bird feature “40179-09” (75 mph).
5. Request Blue Bird feature(s) in the ‘Comments’ section of the Bus Technical Support Ticket, and submit to assigned FSE.
6. FSE will review the request, and if approved will attach the updated Blue Bird VID Parameter file to the Bus Technical Support Ticket for loading with RDT.
7. Save updated VID Parameter file(s) provided by FSE on your laptop that has the RDT tool software installed.
8. All VID Parameter files will be named the chassis number and the file type is (.hex) Example: F370177.hex

Loading the new VID Parameter File – Saving a Log File Using RDT
Refer to the RDT User Guide and RDT Vehicle ID Troubleshooting Guide for detailed RDT instruction. Both of these guides are available from the RDT software. Click “Help” at the top of the RDT menu.
1. Launch the RDT software. Select the appropriate SAE J2534 device and connect to Vehicle (Bus OBD-II connector).
2. Turn the ignition key ON, and Click ‘Vehicle ID’.
3. Once the vehicle is identified, the vehicle (Bus) information will be displayed.
4. Once the vehicle is identified, select ‘VID Parameters’ from the menu on the left.
5. Click ‘Load File’ to select the VID File you wish to load.
6. In the browse window select the applicable VID parameter file and Click ‘Open’.
7. Click ‘Write’ to begin writing VID Block.
8. After the VID parameter file is loaded in the PCM, a ‘Success!’ message will be displayed, Cycle ignition and Click ‘Ok’.
9. After the VID parameter file is loaded in the PCM, RDT creates a Log File.
10. Click ‘View’ at the top of the RDT menu, and then Select ‘Log Files’.
11. Choose Log File for VIN number of Bus (file will be named the VIN number, date, and .log file type).
12. Copy and Paste Log File to Desktop, then attach the Log File to the applicable Blue Bird Technical Support Ticket.

Closing a Blue Bird Bus Technical Support Ticket for Blue Bird Dealer VID Parameter Change Requests
1. The Log File must be saved and attached to the Blue Bird Bus Technical Support Ticket that requested the change.
2. Blue Bird Bus Technical Support Tickets for VID Parameter change requests will not be resolved by FSE without the Log File attached.

Possible failed error messages and recommended checks if they occur when loading the new VID Parameter File Using RDT
1. “VID Read Error FAILED” message. Refer to the “Vehicle ID Troubleshooting Guide” available by clicking on “Help” at the top of the RDT menu.
If it still does not ID, please send an email to [email protected] and include the VIN number. Update the Blue Bird Technical Support Ticket for additional FSE support.
2. “VID Verification Failed: Write and Read DO NOT MATCH” message. Verify the correct “VID Parameter File” is being loaded. VID Parameter files are named the chassis number and file type is (.hex) Example: F370177.hex
If it still has a “VID Verification Failed: Write and Read DO NOT MATCH” message, disconnect the “SRM” or “Gateway” module and try loading again. If successful reconnect the “SRM” or “Gateway” module.
If it still has a “VID Verification Failed: Write and Read DO NOT MATCH” message, update the Blue Bird Technical Support Ticket for additional FSE support.
