Dealers must perform this Service Campaign whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any
maintenance or repair.
When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's Vehicle
Information Screen (VIS) via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns.

Description: 2011-2015MY Sonata Hybrid (YF HEV) vehicles Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery
(ORVR) system may exceed its capacity in certain situations.
This bulletin provides the procedure to install an Auxiliary Canister to increase the ORVR system
capacity.
There are no drivability concerns associated with this condition.

NOTE 2: If a part that is not covered by this campaign is found in need of replacement while
performing Service Campaign 964 and the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate
claim using the same Repair Order. If the affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval
Request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work.

NOTE: Dealers have been sent 10 campaign stickers for the start of this campaign. Additional can be
ordered through its facing PDC.

NOTICE
For vehicles registered in certain states, a VEHICLE EMISSION RECALL – PROOF OF
CORRECTION CARD must be filled out by the service manager, and given to the vehicle owner
upon completion of the campaign. A Campaign Sticker must also be filled out and placed on
the hood of the vehicle. Refer to pages 8 and 9 for more details.
For all vehicles, a Campaign Sticker must be filled out and placed on the hood of the vehicle.

Service Procedure:
1.

Lift up the vehicle on a hoist.
Locate the Natural Vacuum Leak
Detection (NVLD) sensor (A).

Release the hose clamp and disconnect
NVLD vapor hose (B) which is connected
to the EVAP canister.

Install the auxiliary canister (C) as
followed.

Connect the hose disconnected from the
NVLD to the auxiliary canister nipple (D).
Connect the auxiliary canister hose (E) to
the NVLD hose nipple.

Secure the hose connections with spring
hose clamps.

Affix the auxiliary canister hook (F) to the
fuel fill pipe (G).

CAUTION

When mounting the auxiliary canister, if there is any interference with fuel filler hose
clamp, adjust the fuel filler hose clamp position by rotating 90 degrees as shown below.
Tightening Torque: 5.8 ~ 7.2 lb·ft (0.8 ~ 1.0 kgf·m, 7.8 ~ 9.8 N·m)

After mounting the auxiliary canister, secure auxiliary canister and hoses with cable ties.

Put a cable tie through an eyelet (H) of the
auxiliary canister and tie to the air filter vent
hose (I).

Secure NVLD hose and auxiliary hose
together with a cable tie.

CAUTION
Secure hoses with cable ties in two places for proper mounting without movement.
Auxiliary canister eyelet must be utilized as one of the cable ties application
location.
Tighten cable ties snuggly. Avoid over tightening to minimize deformation of
hoses.
Ensure that auxiliary canister isn’t pressing against NVLD wiring pig tail connector.

There should be some space between
the NVLD connector and the auxiliary
canister.
Interference may occur if cable ties are
tightened excessively. NVLD may
malfunction and DTC may trigger.
Ensure that auxiliary canister isn’t
pressing against NVLD wiring and pig tail
connector.

GDS Evap Leakage Test:

Follow GDS instructions and perform GDS Evap Leakage Test to confirm parts and hoses
are installed properly.

9.

Check for installed parts and hose connections if EVAP leakage is detected.
After making corrections, clear the DTC(s) and perform GDS Evap Leakage Test again.
Repair procedure is completed if EVAP Leakage Test doesn’t detect any leakage.

For vehicles registered in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts,
New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington:
VEHICLE EMISSION RECALL - PROOF OF CORRECTION CARD
A Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction card must be filled out for all vehicles registered in
California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York,
Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington. Residents of these states, who
own an affected vehicle, will be required to possess a Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction
card as evidence of voluntary service campaign completion, when they apply for vehicle registration
renewal.
WHAT TO DO WITH THE CARD:
The Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction card must be completed by the Dealership’s
Service Manager using a permanent ink pen. A fine point pen is recommended. When filling in the
information, copy the information directly from the vehicle, not from the repair order. ALL
INFORMATION MUST BE PRINTED AND NEAT.
The copy of the card shown below indicates the areas to be filled in. Each area must be filled in.
The completely filled out Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction card should be given to
the owner of the vehicle upon completion of the Campaign.
