PURPOSE
Indian Motorcycle has determined some 2022 Indian Chief motorcycles may have a misaligned fork cover. This may
cause cosmetic damage to the fork, fork cover, and fender.
Indian Motorcycle has released this Service Bulletin to inspect for paint damage, and verify fork covers alignment.
Please refer to the information within this Bulletin.

Select Service Bulletin> Enter the VIN / PIN and Retrieve Registration. Select Indian Motorcycle® I-21-02 and Send
Claim.

I-21-02 FORK COVER INSPECTION
TOOLS REQUIRED

Fork Damage Example

• T25 Torx® Bit
• 1/4” Drive Ratchet
• Vernier/Dial/Digital Caliper
• Torque Wrench

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Park motorcycle on a flat surface, fully extend
kickstand, and make sure vehicle is stable.
2. Turn key or ignition switch to OFF position and
remove key. If equipped with keyless fob, remove fob
from proximity of vehicle.
3. Locate the fork covers and inspect the fork covers,
fork tubes and fender for paint damage.

STOP!
If there is no paint damage proceed to the next step.
If paint damage is found please proceed to step 5 and
align fork covers.
• Cosmetic damage has no influence on bike
performance. Damaged parts should be replaced
through the standard warranty process.
• It is acceptable for the customer to delay standard
warranty replacement of cosmetic parts during the
off-riding season. Proceed with completing this
Bulletin.

4. Using a vernier/dial/digital caliper, measure the
lateral distance between the fork cover and fork
body.

5. Loosen the fork cover fasteners, and align the covers
to 6.6 mm +/- 1 mm (0.26 in. +/- 0.04 in.). Torque
fasteners to specification.

Gap Specification:
6.6 mm +/- 1 mm (0.26 in. +/- 0.04 in.)

Fork Cover Fasteners:
(10 N·m) 89 ft-lbs

6. Submit a Service Bulletin Warranty Claim for I-21-02.

If the fork covers are aligned on both sides proceed to
step 6.
