Concerns:

Steering column screws on steering gear

Information:

Due to a process error during production, there is a possibility that the threaded connection
securing the steering column to the steering gear does not meet the required specifications on
the affected vehicles.
If this is the case, the steering column can become detached from the steering gear over the service life
of the vehicle. As a result, we cannot rule out the possibility that the steering will fail.

Action required: Replace steering column screws on the steering gear.

Read and follow work instruction for working on 48-volt vehicle electrical system.  Workshop

Raise the vehicle using a lifting platform.  Workshop Manual '4X00IN Lifting the vehicle'

Remove front underbody cover (front and rear section).  Workshop Manual '519219 Removing
and installing front underbody cover'

Replace steering column screws on the steering
gear.
4.1

Unscrew fastening screw  Universal joint
for steering column -2- from universal joint
for steering column  Universal joint for
steering column -1-.

Screw new fastening screw  Universal joint
for steering column -2- into the universal joint

Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.) +90°

Lower the vehicle and remove it from the lifting platform.
