General Information
Daimler Trucks
North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner
Trucks Division, is initiating Field
Service Campaign SF623AB to modify the vehicles mentioned above.
Certain vehicles equipped with a Detroit Assurance base package, and a DT12 transmission with intelligent
powertrain management (IPM+), were not built with the Traffic Sign Display (TSD) option.
The parameters will be updated to add the TSD option.
There are approximately 6,000 vehicles involved.
Additional Repairs
Dealers must complete all outstanding Recall and Field Service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of a
vehicle. A Dealer will be liable for any progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaigns
before sale or delivery of a vehicle.
Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete campaigns within a
reasonable time after receiving notification.
Please contact Warranty Campaigns for consideration of additional charges prior to performing the repair.
Work Instructions
Please refer to the attached work instructions. Prior to performing the campaign, check the vehicle for a
completion sticker (Form WAR261).

There are no replacement parts.
If our records show your dealership has ordered any vehicle(s) involved in campaign number SF623, a list of the

Removed Parts

IMPORTANT: When the campaign has been completed, locate the base completion label in the appropriate location on the vehicle, and attach the gray completion sticker provided in the field service kit (Form WAR261). If
the vehicle does not have a base completion label, clean a spot on the appropriate location of the vehicle and
first attach the base completion label (Form WAR259). If a field service kit is not required or there is no completion sticker in the kit, write the campaign number on a blank sticker and attach it to the base completion label.
Claims for Credit
You will be reimbursed for your parts, labor, and handling (landed cost for Export Distributors) by submitting
your claim through the Warranty system within 30 days of completing this campaign. Please reference the
following information in OWL:
• Claim type is Field Service Campaign.
• In the Campaign field, enter the campaign number and appropriate condition code (SF623-A or
SF623-B).
• In the Primary Failed Part field, enter 25-SF623-000.
• In the Labor section, enter the appropriate SRT from the Labor Allowance Table. Administrative time will
be included automatically as SRT 939-6010A for 0.3 hours for all vehicles.
• The VMRS Component Code is F99-999-005 and the Cause Code is A1 - Campaign.
• This Field Service Campaign will terminate on September 30, 2022. Dealers will be notified of any
changes to the termination date via Important Campaign Information Letter posted on DTNAConnect.com.
IMPORTANT: OWL must be viewed prior to beginning work to ensure the vehicle is involved and the campaign
has not previously been completed. Also, check for a completion sticker before beginning work.
All claims must be submitted within 30 days of the repair and within 30 days of the termination date of the
campaign. U.S. and Canadian Dealers: All excess inventory to be returned to the PDC following the conclusion
of the campaign must be returned in resaleable condition to the Memphis PDC within 90 days from the
termination date. Please submit a PAR to request return to the Memphis PDC. (Canadian dealers should return
the kits to their facing PDC.) Export Distributors: Excess inventory is not returnable.

Please contact an authorized Daimler Trucks
North America dealer to arrange to have the campaign performed
and to ensure that parts are available at the dealership. To locate an authorized dealer, go to
Daimler-TrucksNorthAmerica.com/Contact-Us/. Scroll down to “Locate a Dealer,” and select the appropriate
brand. The campaign will take approximately one hour and will be performed at no charge to you.
This Field Service Campaign will terminate on September 30, 2022. Please make sure the campaign is
completed prior to this date. Work completed after this date will be done at the customer’s expense.
As stated in the terms of your express limited warranty, Daimler Trucks
North America LLC will not pay for any
damage caused by failure to properly maintain your vehicle. Daimler Trucks
North America LLC considers the
work necessary under this campaign to be proper maintenance and will, therefore, not pay for any damage to
your vehicle caused by your failure to have the repairs that are the subject of this campaign performed in a
reasonable time.

Work Instructions
Subject: Cascadia ICUC Traffic Sign Display
Models Affected: Specific model year 2021 Freightliner

Central Gateway (CGW) Parameter Change (SF623A & SF623B)
1.
Check the base label (Form WAR259) for a completion sticker for SF623 (Form WAR261) indicating this
work has been done. The base label is usually located on the passenger door about 12 inches (30 cm)
below the door latch. If a sticker is present, no work is needed. If there is no sticker, proceed with the next
step.
2.
Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that DiagnosticLink® is updated to the latest version (8.14 at the time of publication, or
newer) before programming the vehicle.
3.
Connect the vehicle to DiagnosticLink. Ensure that the central gateway (CGW) ECU is connected and online in the ‘Connections’ window. See Fig. 1.

Open the ‘Parameters’ tab, and ensure that all the parameters are successfully read by DiagnosticLink.
This will be indicated in the status bar at the bottom of the window. See Fig. 2.

Go to ‘Program Device,’ and select ‘Connect to Server’ to upload the vehicle parameters to the server.

After the upload is complete, select ‘Add.’ Make sure the correct vehicle identification number (VIN) is
populated in the window that appears. Select ‘OK,’ and then select ‘Connect to Server.’
NOTE: In some vehicles, the CGW parameter ‘GVC Traffic Sign Recognition Function’ may have already been
updated to ‘A0224471327-001 GVC TrafficSignRecognition:TSR.’

After the server download is complete, go to the ‘Parameters’ tab, ‘CGW04T - Central Gateway,’ ‘GVC
Data,’ ‘GVC Traffic Sign Recognition Function,’ then select ‘A0224471327-001 GVC TrafficSignRecognition:TSR’ from the drop-down list in the ‘Value’ column. See Fig. 4 and Fig. 5.

Once the parameter changes are complete, go to the ‘Program Device’ tab and verify there is a pending
upload.
• If there is a pending upload, select ‘Connect to Server’ to upload the parameter updates to the server.
• If there is no pending upload, go to the ‘Parameters’ tab, select ‘Refresh,’ and verify the parameter
‘GVC Traffic Sign Recognition Function’ is set to ‘A0224471327-001 GVC TrafficSignRecognition:TSR,’ Go to ‘Program Device;’ there should now be a pending upload. Select ‘Connect to Server’
to upload the parameter updates to the server.

NOTE: In some vehicles, the ICUC parameter ‘ParmTSRMenu’ may have already been updated to
‘A0444471621-001 TSR Menu Available.’

After the server download is complete, ensure that ICUC is connected and online in the ‘Connections’ window, then go to the ‘Parameters’ tab, ‘PID 0x45 (FTL config),’ ‘ParmTSRMenu,’ then select ‘A0444471621001 TSR Menu Available’ from the drop-down list in the ‘Value’ column. See Fig. 6 and Fig. 7.

Instrument Cluster Automatic Configuration (SF623A & SF623B)

Once the parameter updates are uploaded to the server, the instrument cluster must be configured. Select
‘Actions’ tab, select ‘Instrument Cluster Automatic Configuration,’ ‘Instrument Cluster Automatic Configuration’ window will then open. Select ‘Start’ to start the configuration.
2.
While the configuration is in progress, the ‘Instrument Cluster Automatic Configuration’ procedure window
will display steps 1 through 10. Completion of step 10 indicates the configuration is successfully completed. Close the ‘Instrument Cluster Automatic Configuration’ window by selecting the ‘X’ at the upperright corner. See Fig. 8.

Confirm that the driver display now has access to ‘Traffic Sign Assist’ as follows.
• For ICUC Dash Display, using the steering wheel switches and on-screen prompts, navigate to ‘Settings,’ ‘Safety Systems,’ and ‘Traffic Sign Display’ to verify the ‘Traffic Sign Display’ feature is available, and can be turned ON or OFF. See Fig. 9.
