The affected vehicles have been marked with campaign number 0061440000
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this campaign it will be necessary to verify the
vehicle VIN in AIR (Aftersales Information Research). Based on the response of the system, either proceed
with the repair or take no further action. Please note, open campaigns or vehicle stops may not appear in
DCS Warranty Vehicle Inquiry or sales systems until 24-72 hours after they are announced, therefore AIR is
always the recommended method for determining open campaigns and vehicle stops.
SITUATION
The engine wiring harness may chafe on the honeycomb structure of the frame. In case of damage to the
wiring harness, the wake-up line of the instrument cluster will be damaged. The instrument cluster will no
longer be activated with "Ignition ON”.
CORRECTION
Inspect the wiring harness for damage and install wiring protection as detailed in the attached Repair
Instruction "00 60 358 - Retrofitting abrasion protection for wiring harness".

This Service Information Bulletin replaces SI 61 02 20 dated September 2020.
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before
customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform
the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

00 60 358 Retrofit abrasion protection for wiring harness
without centre stand OE (0636)
Additional work: 46 52 510 Removing and installing the rear-wheel stand special tool (motorcycles without centre stand)

Removing seat
Unlock seat lock (1) with ignition key, lift seat (2) at rear
and remove with buffers (3) from holder.

Removing right rear trim panel
Remove bolt (1).
Detach rear trim panel (2) from retaining clips (3) and retaining pin (4) and remove.

Removing the centre cover of fuel tank
Open storage compartment lid (1).
Remove screws (2).
Remove cover (1) to the top, detaching it from the retaining clips (2) and from the retaining lugs (3) on the left and
right.

Removing right engine spoiler
Remove screws (1).
Loosen engine spoiler (2) from mounting clips (3) and remove.

Removing right side panel
Remove nuts (1) and screws (2).
Pull right fairing side panel (1) out of mounting clips (2)
and rubber grommet (3).
Open the cable strap (arrow).
Remove and disconnect plug connection (4) for right turn
indicator.

Removing front right inboard cover
Requirement
Windscreen in upper position
ATTENTION
Use of hard or sharp-edged objects in proximity to
component
Component damage
Take care not to scratch components; cover or mask as
necessary.

Remove bolt (1).
Swing front right inboard cover (1) to the back detaching
mounting clip (2) from recess (3).
Remove inboard cover (1).

Removing top section of fairing, right
Remove bolt (1).
Detach fairing top section (2) from retaining clips (arrows)
and remove.

Removing right fuel-tank cover
Remove nuts (1) and screws (2).
Detach fuel tank cover (3) on right from fuel tank (arrow)
and remove.

Converting abrasion protection for wiring
harness
Loosen hose for secondary air system (1) from holder (2)
and place in front of it.
Loosen cable strap with holder (arrow) for hydraulic
line (3).
Push wiring harness (4) carefully toward the intake silencer.
Check wiring harness for chafe marks
Check
Check wiring harness (1) for damage (arrow).
Result
Wiring harness (1) has surface damage (for instance chafed
or torn spots).
Measure
Wrap wiring harness with fabric adhesive tape (61 0 631).

ATTENTION
Improper routing of wiring harness and contact with
frame
Chafing at wiring harness
Install protective film between frame and wiring harness.
Clean the frame surface in the adhesive area and allow to
vent.
NOTICE
Faces that will be in contact with the adhesive must be dry,
clean and free from dust and grease.
Slide in protective film (1) carefully between frame (2) and
wiring harness (3).
Align protective film (1) on badge (arrow) and edge of the
recess in the frame (arrow) and affix.
Check position wiring harness to protective film. (Wiring
harness only touches protective film, not frame.)
ATTENTION
Improper routing of wiring harness and contact to
screw connection of cylinder head cover
Chafing at wiring harness
Install wiring harness with distance to screw connection of
the cylinder head cover.
Secure hose for secondary air system (1) in holder (2)
Position the wiring harness (4) making sure there is a gap
and it does not touch the bolt (5) for the cylinder head
cover.
Secure cable strap with holder (arrow) for hydraulic
line (3).
Check position of hydraulic line (3).

Installing right fuel-tank cover
Attach fuel tank cover (3) on right on fuel tank (arrow)
and install.
Install screws (short collar) (1) and screw (long collar) (2).

Installing top section of fairing, right
Secure fairing top section (2) in retaining clips (arrows)
and install.
Install bolt (1).

Installing front right inner trim
Requirement
Windscreen in upper position
ATTENTION

Fit front right inboard cover (1) swinging it inward engaging
mounting clip (2) in recess (3).

Install bolt (1).

Installing right side panel
Connect plug connection (1) for right turn indicator and
secure on fairing side panel (2).
Secure the cable strap (arrow).
Fit right fairing side panel (2) inserting guide pin (3) in rubber grommet (4).
Install fairing side panel (2) securing it in mounting
clips (5).
Install screws (short collar) (1) and screw (long collar) (2).

Installing right engine spoiler
Install engine spoiler (2) and secure in mounting clips (3).
Install screws (1).

Installing centre cover of fuel tank
Install cover (1) securing it on left and right in retaining
clips (2) and on retaining lugs (3).
Install screws (2).
Close storage compartment cover (1).

Installing right rear trim panel
Install rear trim panel (2) and secure it in retaining clips (3)
and on retaining pin (4).
Install bolt (1).

Installing seat
Insert seat (1) with buffers (2) in holder and install.
Seat (1) engages with audible click.

Final check of work performed
Check the following:
The work as performed achieved the intended purpose.
All reservoirs and containers have been filled and all fluids
and lubricants are at their correct levels.
All threaded fasteners released beforehand have been correctly retightened.
The fuel system is free of leaks.
The lights and signalling equipment are fully operational
and the vehicle is roadworthy.
The brake pads of the front and rear brakes are bedded
against the brake discs.
Function test, engine start suppression
Check
Set kill switch to "ON" position.

Select neutral.
Switch on the ignition.
Neutral indicator light "N" lights up.
Select a gear.
Neutral indicator light "N" goes out.
Press the starter button.
Starter does not operate.
Extend the side stand.
Pull the clutch lever.
Press the starter button.
Starter does not operate.
Retract the side stand.
Press the starter button without releasing the clutch lever.
Starter operates.
Result
Not all test steps completed successfully.
Measure
Check the appropriate parts with the BMW
Motorrad diagnostic system.

Installing rear-wheel stand
Installing adapter in basic stand
Release knurled screw (1) and remove mounting (2) from
mounting (36 3 974).
Insert the mounting (36 3 974) in the base stand (36 3
971) and secure with fuse (3).
Mount the service adapter, rear, (36 3 979) on the
swinging arm.
Insert the mounting (36 3 975) in to the base stand (36
3 971), adjust to suit the width of the swinging arm and
secure with bolts (1).
Adjust the rear-wheel stand to the correct height.
Slide the rear-wheel stand under the rear wheel swinging
arm and position on service adapters (36 3 979).
ATTENTION
Vehicle toppling to side
Risk of damage to parts if vehicle topples
Make sure that the vehicle is secured so that it cannot
topple sideways.
Hold the motorcycle upright and at the same time press
the stand down until the motorcycle is level and the handle
of the rear-wheel stand is on the ground.

Removing rider’s seat
Push driver's seat (1) on the seat cushion surface (arrow)
forwards.
Loosen bolt (2).
Raise the driver's seat (1) at the rear and remove.

Removing right fuel-tank cover
Remove screws (1).
Unhook right fuel tank cover (2) from mount (arrow).
Release cover (2) from mounts (3) on fuel tank.
Unclip cover (2) from retaining lug (4) and detach from
hook (5), remove cover (2).

Converting abrasion protection for wiring

carefully toward the intake silencer.

Attach right fuel tank cover (2) on hook (5) and fasten on
retaining lug (4).
Attach cover (2) on mounts (3) on fuel tank.
Fasten cover (2) in locator (arrow).
Install screws (1).

Installing rider’s seat
Insert driver's seat (1) at front and position.
Press driver's seat (1) to the front at the seat cushion surface (arrow).
Position bolt (2) and install.

Removing rear-wheel stand
Extend the side stand.
Secure the motorcycle to ensure that it cannot topple and
slowly lower the rear-wheel stand, then remove basic stand
(36 3 971) and adapter (36 3 975).
Place the motorcycle on its side stand.
Remove the service adapter (36 3 979) from rear wheel
swinging arm.

Final check of work performed
Check the following:
The work as performed achieved the intended purpose.
