Subject:
Resistive short condition in LED lighting circuits using no fuse or a 5 amp fuse or greater.

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Overview:
This bulletin involves installing a 3 amp fuse or replacement of a 5 amp fuse or greater with a 3
amp fuse.

Models:
All recreational vehicles with a date of manufacture from March 3, 2014 through March 11,
2016 that have a Lippert Components awning with LED lighting either in the roll tube of the
awning (Fig. 1) or sewn into the fabric of the awning (Fig. 2).

Symptom/Condition:
Heat damage to the LED lighting and or rendering the LED lighting inoperable.

Parts Required:

If the current fuse is a dedicated fuse located in a fuse panel or a dedicated fuse wired inline of the LED light wiring that is rated for greater than 3 amps:
A. 3 amp blade style automotive fuse
If the current fuse is NOT a dedicated fuse in a fuse panel or no fuse is currently present:
A. 3 amp blade style automotive fuse
B. In-line water tight fuse holder with 14 gauge wire

Instructions
Note: The images in the following instructions are intended to be examples of the procedure
and are not necessarily of the exact unit being worked on.
There are 2 options for making this improvement depending on the way the LED lights are
currently wired:
A. Option A: The current fuse is a dedicated fuse located in a fuse panel (Fig. 3) or a
dedicated fuse wired in-line of the LED light wiring (Fig. 4).
1. Remove the current fuse and replace with a new 3 amp fuse.

Disconnect the house battery or otherwise shut off power to the unit.
Locate the LED light switch on the unit. This will usually be located on an interior
wall.
Remove the wall plate and switch assembly from the wall.
Pull switch away from the wall, leaving all wires connected to the back of the
switch (Fig. 6A).
Remove a power wire (Fig. 6B) from the back of the switch (Fig. 7).
Connect an in-line fuse pack (Fig. 8C) with a 3 amp fuse to the end of the power
wire (Fig. 8D).
Connect the wire from the other end of the fuse pack to the spade on the back of
the switch (Fig. 8A) from which the power wire was removed (Fig. 8B).
Re-install the wall plate and switch assembly in the wall, being careful not to
pinch or disconnect any wires in the process. The wires and fuse pack should be
tucked into the wall cavity prior to screwing the wall plate into the wall.
