Over-the-Air Update
Overview
With the introduction of the Zero SR/F, Zero Motorcycles delivered the first fully “smart” motorcycle thanks
to the Cypher III operating system. It was also the first commercially available connected motorcycle on the
market. As a result of these features, riders can now remotely download the latest Cypher III operating
system release to ensure optimal performance and gain access to feature improvements. Zero Motorcycles
will be broadcasting the first such release on May 28, 2019.
NOTE: TO OBTAIN THIS UPDATE OVER-THE-AIR, THE CURRENT OWNER OF THE MOTORCYCLE
MUST HAVE REGISTERED IT USING THE MOBILE APP BUT DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE THEIR
SMARTPHONE CONNECTED TO RECEIVE THE UPDATE.
Firmware Release Notes (Build 236)
This firmware update (Build 236) delivers improved firmware for the main bike board (MBB) and battery
management system (BMS) with the following benefits:

Addresses app time sync issue that could freeze dash display
•
Resolves issue with incomplete wakeup from hibernate
•
Improves motor temperature accuracy under certain conditions
•
Resolves issues with display of certain statistics on dash
•
Increased reliability of MBB and dash communication
•
Improved performance of dash status lights
•
Improved charger detection
•
Enhanced log pulling reliability
•
Eliminates false trigger for check engine light while updating
•
Improved over-the-air update functionality
•
Fixed issue with motorcycle overriding rider’s dash time setting

Rider’s Perspective of the Firmware Update Process
Once the firmware update is available for the motorcycle, the dash will display the following screen when it
is next keyed on. The rider can choose to postpone the firmware update and the same screen will appear on
the dash the next time the motorcycle is keyed on.
If the rider chooses the “Install” button to install the new firmware, the motorcycle will begin the update
process immediately and the following screen will be displayed on the dash. The rider can choose to leave
the motorcycle keyed on or key it off once it has started. Either way, it will continue to complete the update
attempt.
Once the firmware update process is completed, the dash will transition back to the Main Ride Screen and
the rider will see a notification indicating either Firmware Update Success or Firmware Update Failure.
NOTE: IF THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS FAILS, A FIRST STEP TO RESOLVE ANY ISSUES IS TO
RETRY THE UPDATE ATTEMPT.
