Positive Attachment Lanyard (PAL) Device Alarm

Issue:
Terex LT40 aerial devices equipped with the Positive Attachment Lanyard (PAL) device, produced from
March 2020 to February 2021, may have an alarm indication that is difficult for the operator to hear.
Failure to update the PAL system may result in the operator not hearing the alarm indication when
the operator’s lanyard is not connected.

Action:
What the Owner Must Do:
1. Inform all users, operators, and supervisors that the PAL system must be inspected within 30
days of receipt of this bulletin.
2. Inspect the unit to determine if it has the correct alarm indication sequence.
a. Set the outriggers, if equipped, per the instructions in the Operator’s Manual.
b. Unstrap the upper boom rest strap, if equipped.
c. From the lower controls, raise the upper boom slightly so the basket is free from its rest.
d. Enable the upper controls from the lower control station.
e. From outside the basket, slowly function any boom control from the upper controls being
aware of the direction of machine movement.
f. Listen for the PAL device alarm indication. It will be either 1 beep every 10 seconds or 6
successive beeps followed by a 5 second pause and then repeated.
3. Inspect the unit to determine if it has a clearance hole in the rotator bracket cover for the PAL
control box speaker as shown in Figure 1.

4. If the alarm indication is 1 beep every 10 seconds or there is not a clearance hole in the cover,
see the continued use section for further instructions.
5. If the alarm indication is 6 successive beeps followed by a 5 second pause and then repeated,
and there is a clearance hole in the cover; this bulletin does not apply. The unit can be used
following all operator, maintenance, and inspection requirements as specified in the manuals.

Continued Use:
Inform the users of the content of this bulletin and remind them of the daily pre-shift inspection
requirements.
1. Inform all users, operators, and supervisors that the PAL device may be difficult to hear,
especially when the speaker is muffled against covers. If the machine is equipped with a basket
rotator it may be necessary to slightly rotate the basket from the fully stowed position to allow the
alarm indication to be unmuffled.
2. At the next scheduled maintenance interval, contact Terex Utilities using the contact information
in this bulletin to arrange for repair.
3. Always follow inspection and maintenance requirements as specified in the manuals.

What Terex will Do:
Terex will provide Field Service Kit Z1630, parts and labor, at no cost to the customer for a period of one
(1) year from the release date of this bulletin.

[email protected] to arrange for repair at the next scheduled maintenance interval. If you have
sold the unit involved in this bulletin forward this bulletin to the new owner within 10 days and notify Terex
of the serial number and contact information for the new owner.
Dealers and Installers: A letter is being sent to owners of affected units. If affected units are in your
area TEREX Utilities will contact you to arrange the repairs. Labor allowance is one (1) hour. Affected
units, as shown on the owner letter, will have the repairs performed at no charge to the owner.
Only LT40 models with the PAL device installed are involved. If the owner contacts you, call TEREX
Utilities Warranty Department at 1-844-837-3948 for instructions and to arrange shipment of parts.
Contact TEREX Utilities Warranty Department at the above number for return authorization for the
removed PAL control box, Terex part number 625206.
Important: Some of the involved units may be in rental fleets. Terex requires you to complete the
service on these units before renting, or to inform the renters within 10 days of receipt of this bulletin.
Terex and local industry standards (CSA and ANSI) require that the purchaser of a Terex unit report to
Terex the model and serial number of each machine sold, as well as the name, address, and telephone
number of the new owner, within 60 days of the sale. Use the Owner Update Form in the manual to
update the owner status of any of your machines. Terex also asks the seller to provide the new owner
information so if you require additional copies of the Owner Update Form or have any questions, please
