Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve (EGRV) Mounting Bolts
MODELS INVOLVED:
International® LT®, HV™ and RH™ Series trucks with International® A26 engine only.
DEFECT DESCRIPTION:
Certain International® LT®, HV™ and RH™ Series trucks may have the incorrect EGRV
mounting bolts installed.
ELIGIBILITY:
This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles marked in the International® Service PortalSM
with FSC 21105. Also complete any other open campaigns listed on the Service Portal
at this time.
TOOLS REQUIRED:
No special tools are required.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, or damage to property, park
vehicle on hard flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and install
wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from moving in both directions.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, or damage to property,
always wear safe eye protection when performing vehicle maintenance.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, allow engine to cool before
removing components.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, or damage to property, keep
flames or sparks away from vehicle and do not smoke while servicing the
vehicle’s batteries. Batteries expel explosive gases.
1. Park vehicle on a level surface.
2. Shift transmission into Park or Neutral and set parking brake.
3. Turn ignition to Key OFF position.
4. Install wheel chocks.
5. Unlatch and open hood.
6. Remove air filter housing and assembly. Refer to appropriate service manual for
proper removal and installation of air filter housing and assembly. This information is
found under: Engines / Air Cleaner.

7. Remove five heat shield bolts (Figure 1, Item 1) securing heat shield (Figure 1, Item
2). Save bolts for reuse.
8. Carefully remove heat shield and place on clean workbench.

9. Inspect EGRV mounting bolts for incorrect bolts.
a. If bolts (Figure 2, Item 1) are dull with recessed head, no action is required.
Proceed to Step 13.
b. If bolts (Figure 3, Item 1) are shiny with smooth head, continue to Step 10.

10. Using a crisscross pattern, remove two of the incorrect mounting bolts (Figure 3,
Item 1) and install two new mounting bolts (Figure 2, Item 1). Discard bolts.
11. Using a crisscross pattern, remove two remaining incorrect mounting bolts (Figure
3, Item 1) and install two new mounting bolts (Figure 2, Item 1). Discard bolts.
12. Torque mounting bolts to 34 lb-ft (46 N·m) in a crisscross pattern.

13. Position heat shield (Figure 4, Item 2) into place.
14. Install five heat shield bolts (Figure 4, Item 1) and torque to 23 lb-ft (31 N·m).
15. Install air filter housing and assembly. Refer to appropriate service manual for
proper removal and installation of air filter housing and assembly. This information
is found under: Engines / Air Cleaner.
16. Close and latch hood.
17. Remove wheel chocks.

WARRANTY CLAIMS

Warranty claim expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the
normal manner, making reference to Field Service Campaign 21105.
Section 7 of the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual contains further information
related to the submission and processing of AFC / Recall claims.
As with all claim submissions, items acquired locally must be submitted in the “Other
Charges” tab. The cost of any bulk items (such as a bag of cable tie straps, roll of wire,
barrel of oil, or tube of silicone) should be prorated for the cost of the individual pieces /
amount used during each repair.
To make sure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for
21105 activity must be submitted by 26 July 2022 or within the normal warranty period
for the component, if after 26 July 2022.
