2.0 Cab Heater Plumbing Ball Valve
Mount

Purpose:
This bulletin provides instructions to update the cab heater plumbing ball valve mount. The new ball valve mount
design was developed after receiving reports the ball valve mounting screws were breaking off in the ball valve
body. The new design uses a U-bolt to secure the ball valve to a new mounting plate.

• This bulletin should be read and understood in its entirety before performing this procedure.
• All procedures outlined in the bulletin must be performed by skilled service personnel. Refer to the product
service manual for descriptions of maintenance procedures.

Procedure:
Lockout/Tagout
1. Place unit on a flat surface, block truck tires, and perform your company’s Lockout/Tagout procedure. If your
company does not have a Lockout/Tagout procedure, follow OSHA 1910.147 and 1910.146 Confined Space as
appropriate.
2. The vehicle’s BATTERY DISCONNECT switch is located on the left-hand side of the battery box. Use the
battery disconnect switch when performing any maintenance so the vehicle cannot accidentally be started.
a. Turn the battery disconnect switch (Figure A, Item 1) counterclockwise so the hole on the switch aligns
with the hole in the bracket (Figure A, Item 2).

b. Install the safety lockout device ring (Figure B, Item 1) through the holes on the battery disconnect switch
and the bracket.
c. Install a padlock (Figure B, Item 2) onto the safety lockout device ring, lock it, and put the key in your
pocket. If more than one person is working on the vehicle, each person must install his or her own padlock.

3. Locate the heater line ball valve on the left-hand side of the engine, see Figure 1.
4. Loosen and remove two 10-24 x 0.375 in. hex flange screws securing ball valve to mounting bracket, see
Figure 1. Discard screws.
5. Loosen and remove two M10 x 1.5 hex flange screws securing mounting bracket to engine block, see Figure
1. Save screws for installing new mounting bracket.
6. Remove mounting bracket from engine block. Discard mounting bracket.

7. Place mounting plate (A000V994) behind ball valve and against engine block where original mounting
bracket was removed in Step 6, see Figure 2.
8. Install two M10 x 1.5 hex flange screws removed in Step 5 to secure mounting plate to engine block, See
Figure 2. Do not final tighten screws at this time.

9. Install U-bolt (A000V993) around ball valve body and through mounting plate, see Figure 3.

Install flat washers (A000R708), lock washers (A000G659) and U-bolt nuts on U-bolt, see Figure 4. Do
not final tighten U-bolt nuts at this time.

Adjust the vertical position of the mounting plate, and horizontal position of the U-bolt so the ball valve
rests in its natural assembled position, see Figure 5.

Final tighten the two M10 x 1.5 hex flange screws securing the mounting plate to engine block to
40 ft. lbs.
13.

Final tighten the two U-bolt nuts evenly to 95 in. lbs.

14.

Remove lockout/tagout.
