WARNING: PERSONAL INJURY
To avoid injury from hot surfaces, wear protective gloves, or allow engine to cool before removing
any component.
Test as follows:
1. Install the Pressure Limiting Valve (PLV) flow test adaptor included in the W470589209100 Fuel Flow/Aeration Test
Adaptors kit. Refer to the installation instructions in tool letter 12 TL-7 (http://ddcsn-ddc.freightliner.com/cps/rde/xbcr/
ddcsn/12TL7.pdf).
2. Connect the DDDL to the vehicle and turn the ignition on. From the “Service Routines,” open the “Fuel System
Integrity Check” tab.
3. Start the Fuel System Integrity Check routine and follow the instructions in DDDL.
4. Monitor the PLV return flow into a suitable container. Container should be able to hold at least 200 mL (6.75 oz.) of
fuel. Was fuel flow out of the PLV during the Fuel System Integrity Check routine greater than 160 mL (5.4 oz.)?
a. Yes; Replace the Pressure Limiting Valve (PLV) and reset the PLV counter to 0. Refer to section "Removal of
the Pressure Limiting Valve - Two-Filter System".
b. No; the PLV is not out of spec. Return to initial diagnostics that referred you to this procedure “Pressure Limiting
Valve Flow Test – Two-Filter Fuel System.”

Test as follows:
1. Remove the Pressure Limiting Valve (PLV) line (1) from the fitting at the top of the fuel filter module.
2. Install clear hose and fitting from J-48708-4 and J-48708 kit to the PLV return line.
3. Cap PLV return line fitting on the fuel filter module using J-48708-3.
4. Place the opposite end of the clear hose into a graduated container. Container should be able to hold 200 mL (6.75 oz.)
of fuel.
5. Start the engine and perform the Automatic FSIC routing in the Service Routines panel and note the return flow to the
graduated container. Was fuel flow out of the PLV during the Fuel System Integrity Check greater than 160 mL (5.4
oz.)?
a. Yes; replace the Pressure Limiting Valve (PLV) and reset the PLV counter to 0. Refer to section "Removal of the
Pressure Limiting Valve - Three-Filter System".
b. No; the PLV is not out of spec. Please return to the diagnostic that referred you to this procedure "Pressure
Limiting Valve Flow Test - Three- Filter System."
