vehicle, the Turbocharger Wastegate Valve Actuator emission-related limited warranty for
defects in material or workmanship has been extended to 15 years/150,000 miles, as
determined from the original in-service date. This coverage is subject to the same vehicle
eligibility requirements, limitations, and exclusions that apply to the BMW
New Vehicle
Limited Warranty. Vehicles that are registered in California or a State that has fully adopted
the State of California TZEV emission regulation (model year dependent), the standard
emission-related coverage for this component is 15 years/150,000 miles.
Note: Before performing a repair and submitting a claim, first confirm that the vehicle has the above Notice of
Limited Warranty Extension in the DCSnet Warranty Inquiry Vehicle Comments section.
If you have Extended Limited Warranty (ELW) eligibility and/or coverage questions, please contact the Warranty

SITUATION
Component-Specific Limited Warranty Extension
For the eligible vehicles, BMW of North
America, LLC (BMW NA) is extending the
limited warranty for the vehicle’s Turbocharger
Wastegate Valve Actuator (item # 1,
shown) to:
15 years/150,000 miles as determined
by the vehicle’s original in-service date.
Issues and repairs related to the turbocharger
assembly itself including the wastegate valve
assembly are not included under this
component-specific limited warranty extension.
This component-specific limited warranty extension applies to defects in materials or workmanship.
This coverage is subject to the same vehicle eligibility requirements, limitations, and exclusions that apply to the
BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.

Action.

There is no immediate repair required unless the BMW vehicle is currently experiencing this problem.
Customer Notification Letter
Even though this is NOT a Recall, BMW NA is sending VIN-specific customer notification letters.
CAUSE
The check engine light (MIL) is displayed, a drivetrain malfunction message may also display, and the engine
power output may be reduced.
Fault code will be stored in the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) for the electrical wastegate.
Additionally, any other repair that requires the replacement of the Turbocharger’s Wastegate Valve Actuator due
to a defect in material and workmanship is also covered under the extended time and mileage limits described
in this bulletin.
CORRECTION
An open circuit may have developed at the electric wastegate valve actuator’s pin and wire harness connection.
1. Perform a VIN-specific DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry (WVI):
Is the following Service Action Campaign Defect Code open on the vehicle?
0012540500 - G30 PHEV Programming control unit (DME) (SI B12 02 21)
If yes, this Service Information Bulletin does not apply.
Perform, and submit for the programming and encoding procedure, including the applicable consequential
repairs, as outlined in the above Service Action.
2. If no, follow the instructions in this bulletin’s PROCEDURE section.
PROCEDURE
Important warning for working on the high-voltage systems on BMW Group vehicles:
Only properly trained personnel, who have passed all applicable technical training courses, should
perform any maintenance or repairs on any Hybrid or Electric Vehicle. Work performed by unqualified
persons may result in severe injury or damage to the vehicle. Additional information is found in Repair
Instruction 61 00… Observe safety instructions when handling electric vehicles.
1. Determine the vehicle’s current I-level by either using AIR or the Key reader/ISPA NEXT application.
Note: Most of these vehicles will already be at an I-level of S15A-21-03-545 or higher through a
repair performed during a prior workshop visit, or they will be eligible to have their software upgrade
performed through the open Service Action (DC 00 12 54 05 00).
In the rare instance Service Action (DC 0012540500) does not show to apply (opened or closed) and the
vehicle’s I-level is lower than S15A-21-03-545, please refer to the Programming and Encoding section (#4)
below.
2. Disconnect and visually inspect the
electronic wastegate actuator electrical
connections.

3. If discoloration is visible on the connector
as shown on the left, the electrical connector,
pins, and electronic wastegate actuator must
be replaced.
4. If no discoloration is visible on the
connector and/or pins but the electronic
wastegate actuator has failed, then only
replace electronic wastegate actuator.
5. If vehicle’s I-level is lower than S15A-21-03-545 and the Service Action (DC 00 12 54 05 00) does not show
to apply to the vehicle (opened or closed), then:
Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.29.1x or higher (released April 2021).

Note that ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the
latest software.
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10) when performing
