Dear Dealers,
We would like to inform you that starting Thursday July 1st, 2021 it will be possible to
activate the “ARAS” system (Advanced Rider Assistance Systems) installed on Multistrada
V4S and Multistrada V4S Sport Model Year 2021 with “TRAVEL & RADAR” or “FULL”
equipment package. Beginning in August, the 2022 Model Year versions equipped with
“ARAS” will have the system already activated.

NOTE
Activation of the ARAS system is subject to a charge and can be purchased in the
DCS Accessory Catalogue by selecting part no. 97981091AA (the price shown on the
DCS does NOT include the cost of labor and therefore the time required to enable the
ARAS system and the road test). The suggested labor time is 60 minutes. More detail
on what is included can be found on page 10.
NOTE
Activation of the ARAS system is free of charge for Customers whose vehicles have
been subject to the CR207 Safety Recall Campaign for engine replacement (a list of
frame numbers for which the ARAS activation is free of charge is attached with this
bulletin). Details on how to perform activation for these VINs can be found on page 5
and reimbursement for the associated labor can be found on page 10.

Supplementary Booklet
In the DCS Part Catalogue it is necessary to order the Supplementary Booklet part no.
91375551US where general information, operation, and limits of the ARAS system are
reported. The document is to be delivered to the Customer who owns the vehicle on which the
system is activated and integrates into the Owner's manual already in their possession.

NOTE
The Supplementary Booklet must already be in your possession before scheduling
the appointment with the Customer for the activation of the ARAS system because
it must be delivered together with the “Multistrada V4 - ARAS Activation &
Delivery Form”.
NOTE
As added reference, a PDF version of the Supplementary Booklet is attached and
available for download with this bulletin in DCS.

Multistrada V4 - ARAS Activation & Delivery Form
Together with the supplementary booklet, it is necessary to print, fill in and have the
Customer sign the “Multistrada V4 - ARAS activation & delivery form” that you will find
attached to this bulletin. This form is to be printed in two copies, one to be delivered to the
Customer and the other to be attached to the Work Order. Additionally, this Form must also
be attached to a dedicated Youtech.
NOTE
A dedicated Youtech is required for all ARAS Activations for the purpose of
attaching a copy of the completed and Customer signed ARAS Activation &
Delivery Form.

Attached to this bulletin you will also find the “ARAS Activation Check List”, which contains
the list of operations to be carried out, in chronological order. For the correct activation of the
ARAS system, be sure to print and always use this document, filling it out and signing it, then
attach it to the Work Order.

ARAS Activation Procedure
Once the voucher part no. 97981091AA has been purchased in the DCS accessory catalogue, it
is required to follow the chronological order of the operations carried out to activate the ARAS
system.
NOTE
For the ARAS activation procedure for the frame numbers involved in the
CR207 engine replacement, DO NOT purchase voucher no. 97981091AA from
the DCS Accessory Catalogue, but proceed directly with system activation
using the DDS 3.0 diagnosis instrument (Ducati has already associated each
frame number from the list attached to the pre-entered free order).
1. Before proceeding with the activation of the ARAS system, it is necessary to carry out the
following operations:
A. Check that the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Rear-View Mirrors with BSD
(Blind Sport Detection) are present.

B. Check that no additional components are installed on the vehicle that could obstruct,
even partially, the action field of the front and/or rear radar (e.g., GoPro mount, video
recorder, decals, etc.).
C. Check that all vehicle components near the front radar are original equipment (Front
Fairing, Headlight, Radar Cover) as well as for the rear radar (Number Plate Holder,
Radar Cover, Taillight).

D. Using the DDS 3.0 diagnosis instrument, enter the BBS control unit diagnosis and
check that the following systems are NOT active:


CC (Cruise Control) function enabled



FCW (Forward Collision Warning) function disabled



ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) function disabled



BSD (Blind Spot Detection) function disabled

2. After checking the above points, you can proceed with the activation by following the
instructions in SRV-ESB-21-001 “DDS 3.0 Diagnosis Instrument – New function for
configuration of Multistrada V4 accessories” that you can find in the attachment.
In summary, after purchasing the voucher 97981091AA you need to:


Reserve the frame number on DCS in the DPSP section



Using the DDS 3.0 diagnosis instrument, access the “Special Functions” menu and
select “Ducati Accessories Manager - accessory activation with order verification and
VIN reservation on DCS”.
NOTE
To use the accessory configuration function, you need an active internet
connection: the operation is performed in online mode.

3. Once the ARAS activation procedure has been completed, use the DDS 3.0 diagnosis
instrument to:
A. Perform a Global Scan, making sure that there are no errors in the memory
B. ARAS correct activation check - Enter the BBS control unit diagnosis verifying that:


The CC (Cruise Control) function is disabled



The FCW (Forward Collision Warning) function is disabled



The ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) function is enabled



The BSD (Blind Spot Detection) function is enabled

C. Front Radar check - Enter the ABS control unit diagnosis and check that:


Fault C1078 is not active



Fault C1778 is not active



The value of the “Front Radar Horizontal Alignment” parameter is between -1.5°
and +1.5°



The value of the “Front Radar Vertical Alignment” parameter is between -1.5° and
+1.5°.

WARNING
If the parameters detected do not fall within the range of the indicated values, it is
necessary to check the front radar mounting/support and carry out the radar
alignment procedure in the ABS control unit diagnosis section – “Adjustments - Front
Radar calibration procedure”.
D. Rear Radar check - Enter the ABS control unit diagnosis and check:


If error C1778 is active, inspect the Rear Radar mounting/support.

4. Carry out a road test to verify the correct operation of the Front and Rear Radar, in
particular:
A. For the “ACC” function check that:


The buttons on the switch work correctly



The icon on the instrument panel is green and grey when the system is switched
on, but the speed control is not active (if no speed is stored, dashes are shown
otherwise the last stored cruise speed is shown)



The icon on the instrument panel is green when the system is on, and speed
control is active



The radar reacts to a vehicle ahead of the motorcycle

B. For the “BSD” function check that:


When the key is turned ON, the Blind Spot Detection system is activated on both
Rear-View Mirrors for 2 seconds



On a non-urban road, riding at a steady speed in the middle of your lane and at a
moderate speed, safely allow yourself to be caught up and overtaken by a vehicle
from behind. If the overtaking vehicle is not too fast compared to the motorcycle,
maximum 23 mph (36 km/h) speed difference, the LED on the Rear-View Mirror on
the motorcycle's side should light up. The test can be considered successful as soon
as the LED lights up at least once.

Labor Reimbursement – Qualified VINs only
Activation of the ARAS system is free of charge for Customers whose vehicles have been
subject to the CR207 Safety Recall Campaign for engine replacement (a list of frame
numbers for which the ARAS activation is free of charge is attached with this bulletin).
Reimbursement for this flat rate time may be available through the regular warranty claims
process, so long as full compliance with the procedures laid out in SLS-21-008 U.S. (21-009
CAN, 21-005 MEX) are adhered to. A copy of the completed and Customer signed ARAS
Activation & Delivery Form must be attached to the Warranty Claim.
NOTE
A dedicated Youtech is required for all ARAS Activations for the purpose of
attaching a copy of the completed and Customer signed ARAS Activation &
Delivery Form.
Flat Rate Operation Code
To activate the “ARAS” system, the specific operation to be used 3-999-084 has been created
in the flat rate tables and valued with a labor time equal to 60 min (10 LU) that includes:


Vehicle reception and delivery



The checks to be made on the vehicle



System enabling



Final road test



Compilation of the ARAS Activation Check List



Explanation to the Customer of the operation and limitations of the ARAS system



Compensation for the cost of the Supplementary Booklet part no. 91375551US.
