WME1 - Adjusting Steering Wheel Position (Workshop Campaign)

Important:

CRITICAL WARNING -This campaign includes steps where control unit(s) in the vehicle will be
programmed with the PIWIS Tester. The vehicle voltage must be maintained between 13.5 volts and 14.5
volts during this programming. Failure to maintain this voltage could result in damaged control unit(s).
Damage caused by inadequate voltage during programming is not a warrantable defect. The technician
must verify the actual vehicle voltage in the PIWIS Tester before starting the campaign and also document
the actual voltage on the repair order

Information:

Due to worldwide semiconductor shortages experienced by some suppliers, the affected vehicles were
built without a control unit for electric steering column adjustment.
As a result, electrical adjustment of the steering wheel position is not available on these vehicles.

Action required: Before delivery to the customer, set a neutral or customer-specific steering wheel position.

Information
To adjust the steering wheel position, the control unit for the steering column adjustment must be
installed temporarily beforehand. One control unit will be provided for each Porsche dealer for this
purpose.
The control unit provided with the part number V04015953K must be re-used as part of the
workshop equipment and remains at the Porsche dealer. The control unit must not therefore be left
in the vehicle and must be removed again after adjusting the steering wheel position.
When a sufficient number of parts is available, the steering column adjustment control units on the
affected vehicles will be retrofitted as part of a new campaign.
For vehicles in which the steering wheel already has an acceptable position for the customer and
does not need to be adjusted, a recall update should be performed in the warranty system to close
the WME1 campaign and allow for reporting of vehicle delivery.
To complete the Recall Update, the ‘Campaign not feasible’ section needs to be selected in PCSS
for the WME1 quality line, as well the reason option "Campaign already carried out as per service
booklet". The warranty relevant flag must also be selected in order to transfer the $0 job line to WWS.
Once the ‘Campaign not feasible’ line processes in WWS, the campaign database will then be updated
as satisfied. Customers must also be provided with the "Pre-Sale disclosure" available in the
WME1 PPN post as an attachment.

Switch on ignition and adjust the steering wheel to the desired position.

Switch off ignition and wait for approx. 1 minute.

Disconnect plug connections on the control unit for steering column adjustment again and remove
control unit for steering column adjustment.

10 Read out and erase the fault memories of all control units.
10.1

Connect a battery charger that is suitable for lithium starter batteries with a current rating
of at least 90 A (e.g. Battery charger 90A) to the jump-start terminals in the engine
compartment.
For instructions, see  Workshop Manual '2706IN External power connection, jump-lead
starting'.

10.2

Position the driver key in the rear area of
the left cupholder in the center console
between the holding struts (emergency start
tray) in order to guarantee a permanent
radio link between the vehicle and driver key
 Emergency start tray.

Connect 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 to the
vehicle communication module (VCI) via the
USB cable. Then connect the communication module to the vehicle and switch on the
PIWIS Tester.

10.4

Switch on the ignition and open the 'Diagnostics' application on the PIWIS Tester start screen.

10.5

Press •F7“ in the control unit selection screen ('Overview' menu) to call up the Additional
menu.

10.6

Select the function "Read all fault memories
and erase if required" and press •F12“
('Next') to confirm  Erasing fault memories.

read out.

Once you have read out the fault memories,
check the fault memory entries.
Information
Erasing fault memories
Due to the lack of a control unit for steering
column adjustment, the fault 0x01025A
(U113E00) "Control unit for electrically adjustable steering column, no communication" is stored in the fault memory. This fault must be ignored in this case, until
the follow-up campaign WME2 to install the control unit for steering column adjustment is
published when the parts are available.
If control units are found to have other faults that are not related to this campaign, these
must first be found and corrected. This work cannot be invoiced under the workshop
campaign number.

10.8

Press •F8“ to delete fault memory entries.

10.9

Press •F12“ ('Yes') in response to the question as to whether you really want to delete all
fault memory entries.
The faults stored in the fault memories of the various control units are deleted.

Information
If fault memory entries for individual control units cannot be deleted, proceed as follows:
•

Switch off ignition.

•

Disconnect the PIWIS Tester diagnostic connector from the diagnostic socket.

•

Lock the vehicle using the driver’s key.

•

Wait approx. 1 minute before unlocking the vehicle again.

•

Start the engine, leave it running for a short time and then stop it again.

•

Switch off the ignition and wait approx. 10 seconds before switching it back on again.

•

Plug the PIWIS Tester diagnostic connector into the diagnostic socket again and restore
communication with the vehicle.

•

Read out the fault memory again and delete any fault memory entries that are stored.

10.10 Once you have erased the fault memories,
select the 'Overview' menu to return to the
control unit selection screen  Control unit
selection.
11 Switch off ignition.
12 Disconnect the PIWIS Tester from the vehicle.
13 Switch off and disconnect the battery charger.
14 Enter the campaign in the Warranty and Maintenance
booklet.
