Issue
Symptom:
Air compressor will not build air/slow to build air
Lubricating oil leaks
Root Cause:
Air compressor ingesting moisture from air compressor inlet tube supplied by Navistar. Air compressor inlet tube is connected at
charge air cooler and condensation can collect at connection because of charge air cooler casting design.
Verification
Verify air compressor inlet tube is connected to port on charge air cooler below charge air cooler outlet pipe. See Figure 1
below.
Verify air compressor inlet tube is connected from charge air cooler connection referenced in Figure 1 to inlet connection on air
compressor. Air inlet tube will either be bulk hose in convolute or a formed rubber hose. See Figure 2 below.
Verify air compressor malfunction was caused by water ingestion. Air compressor unloader and valve assembly or air
compressor cylinder can show signs of corrosion. See Figures 3 and 4 below.
There can be damage to air compressor connecting rod assembly or air compressor crankcase caused by hydro locking.
