Product Update: 2016-20 HR-V Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) Software Update and CVT
Premature Belt Deterioration Warranty Extension

What is the reason for this notice?
Honda
is conducting a product update to your 2016-20 HR-V. The current continuously variable transmission (CVT)
software does not properly monitor internal fluid pressure and detect early CVT belt failure. This can possibly cause
the vehicle not to move when accelerating. Honda
is providing a product update with new CVT software to fix this
issue.
In addition, to ensure confidence in our product and due to the possibility of early deterioration of the CVT belt,
American Honda
is extending the warranty coverage on these CVT’s to 7 years from the original date of purchase or
150,000 miles, whichever comes first. This warranty extension provides coverage for the original owner and any
subsequent owners. The product update must be completed before the extended warranty coverage will take effect.
What will Honda
do?
You can contact any authorized Honda
dealer for an appointment to have your vehicle's CVT software updated for
FREE. After completing the software update the dealer will perform an inspection of the CVT transmission. If the CVT
passes inspection, then no further action is needed. If the CVT fails the inspection, the dealer will replace your
vehicle's CVT transmission for FREE. Please plan to leave your vehicle at the dealer for at least one day to allow
them flexibility in scheduling.
If you previously paid to have your CVT replaced due to CVT belt deterioration and/or breakage, you may be eligible
for reimbursement, even if you no longer own the vehicle. Refer to the attached reimbursement instructions for
eligibility requirements and the reimbursement procedure.
If, after the software update, the MIL illuminates and DTC P721E is set during the extended warranty term, bring your
vehicle to a Honda
dealer to have it inspected. If the CVT fails the inspection, then the dealer will replace your
vehicle's CVT transmission for FREE. Please plan to leave your vehicle at the dealer for at least one day to allow
them flexibility in scheduling.
California owners only
The DMV will not renew your registration until the emissions recall has been completed. After completing the software
update, your dealer must give you a Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction certificate. Please make sure the
dealer completes and gives you the certificate. Keep the certificate for your records as proof that the emissions recall
was completed. The warranty extension repair (if needed) will have no impact on your vehicle registration. Submit the
certificate to the DMV only if the DMV requests it.

What to do if you feel this notice is in error
Our records show that you are the current owner or lessee of a 2016-20 HR-V involved in this product update. If this
is not the case, or the name/address information is not correct, please fill out and return the enclosed postage-paid
Information Change Card. We will then update our records.

Honda
está realizando una actualización de producto a su HR-V 2016-2020. El programa actual de la transmisión
continuamente variable (CVT) no monitorea adecuadamente la presión interna de fluido y no detecta una falla
prematura de la correa de la CVT. Esto puede ocasionar que el vehículo no se mueva cuando se acelera. Honda![]()
está proporcionando una actualización de producto con el nuevo programa de la CVT para corregir este problema.
Además, para garantizar la confianza en nuestro producto y debido a la posibilidad de un deterioro prematuro de la
correa de la CVT, American Honda
está extendiendo la cobertura de la garantía en estas CVT a 7 años de la fecha

?

de forma GRATUITA. Por favor haga planes para dejar su vehículo en el concesionario por lo menos un día, para
permitir flexibilidad en la programación de la cita.
Si usted anteriormente ha pagado por el reemplazo de la CVT debido a deterioro y/o ruptura de la correa de la CVT,
usted puede calificar para un rembolso, aunque ya no sea el propietario del vehículo. Consulte las instrucciones para
reembolso que se encuentra anexa para ver los requisitos de elegibilidad y el procedimiento de reembolso.
Si, después de la actualización del programa, la MIL se enciende y el código DTC P721E se genera durante el

Eligibility Requirements
You may be eligible for reimbursement if you meet all the requirements:
You paid to have your vehicle’s continuously variable transmission (CVT) replaced because of early
deterioration.
• Repairs were made prior to the notice date; repairs made after the notice date must be administered by a
Honda
dealer.
• You owned the vehicle at the time of repair. You are still eligible if you no longer own the vehicle.
• You provide a paid invoice.
Please complete this form and attach the items listed below. Failure to include all requested information will result
in delays and possible denial of your request.

Your invoice must include:
1. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
2. Name and Address of the repair facility
3. Diagnosis and itemized cost of repair – parts and labor
4. Date the work was completed
5. Proof of Payment - copy of the canceled check, bank statement, or credit card receipt showing that you paid for the
repair. Cash payments must be documented on the invoice and a cash payment receipt must be provided.
Please submit copies only. These documents will not be returned.
