IF YOU CONFIRM
A squeaking/ticking noise is coming from the Headliner between the Moonroof and B-pillar area
shown in Figure A.


Can occur on rough roads or during conditions that cause body flex such as when
entering or exiting a sloped driveway.

Remove Moonroof brackets and apply “Ultra High Molecular Weight” (UHMW) tape, from
Squeak and Rattle kit J-50397 (part # J-50397-15), to the bracket.


UHMW tape is listed in the Parts Information.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Write down all radio station settings.

2. If equipped, write down / record the following customer settings for the ATC (Automatic
Temperature Control) system. (Refer to the Service Manual as needed):


3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

4. Remove the right front Assist Grip and
both rear Assist Grips.


Fold the Assist Grip down and
release the retaining clips with a pick
tool.
NOTE: The retaining clips will be
removed from the roof and
reattached to the Assist Grips for
reassembly in step 17.

5. Remove the Body Side Welts from the
tops of all four doors and from around
the A-pillar, B-pillar and C-pillar
finishers.


Lay the Body Side Welts inside the
vehicle so that they are out of the
way.

Gap is approximately
1-2 inches

6. Release both of the front A-Pillar
finishers at the top only.
NOTE: This will allow room so that the
headliner does not get creased.

7. Fold both of the visors down.


Do not remove the visors.

8. Remove both B-pillar finishers:
a. Remove both of the shoulder belt
anchor bolt finishers.
b. Remove both of the anchor bolts
and place the belts out of the way.

Reassembly torque:
49 N•m (5.0kg-m, 36 ft-lb)

c. Pull the lower B-pillar finishers away
from the upper B-pillar finishers at
the top only.
d. Remove both of the upper B-pillar
finishers.
NOTE: The upper B-pillar finishers will
not be reused. Use new ones for
reassembly.

9. Remove both of the Rear Seat Side
Bolsters:
a. Remove the rear “seat bottom” to
gain access to both bolster bolts.
b. Remove both the left and the right
bolster bolts.
c. Slide the bolsters down to release
them from their upper mounting
clips.

10. Remove both C-pillar finishers:


Remove one push pin under bolster
and then remove the C-pillar
finisher.

11. Gently pull the headliner down, one side
at a time, and remove both of the
Moonroof side brackets (shown in
Figure 8 and Figure 9).
CAUTION:
 The headliner can be easily
creased (damaged).
 Only pull down enough to allow
the removal of the Moonroof
bracket.

12. Loosen one nut and remove four bolts
on each side.

Reassembly torque:
Bolts 10 N•m (1.0 kg-m, 89 in-lb)
Nuts 7 N•m (0.7 kg-m, 62 in-lb)

IMPORTANT: Steps 13-15 below must be
closely followed to ensure that the repair is
successful.

13. Cut three strips of UHMW tape (part #
J-50397-15) into the following lengths:


Two pieces to 80mm x 30mm.



Six pieces to 30mm x 30mm.

14. Apply UHMW tape cut in step 13 to both
brackets as shown in Figure 11.

15. Use a center punch to make holes
through the UHMW tape for all of the
bolts to pass.
16. Reinstall both of the Moonroof brackets.
a. Hand start all fasteners first.
b. While pushing each bracket into the
corner of the B-pillar and the sunroof
frame, torque the 2 B-pillar bolts first.
c. Next torque the sunroof bolts and
then the nuts.


Bolts 10 N•m (1.0 kg-m, 89 in-lb)

17. Remove the Assist Grip clips from the roof brackets and reattach to the Assist Grips.

18. Reassemble the remainder of vehicle in the reverse order.


Shoulder belt anchor bolt reassembly torque:
49 N•m (5.0kg-m, 36 ft-lb)

19. Reset the clock and the radio settings.


Refer to the Owner’s manual for the procedure to set clock.

20. Reset the Automatic Temperature Control to the customer’s preferred settings.


Refer to the Electronic Service Manual (ESM), section HAC-Heater & Air
Conditioning Control System to reset prefered settings.

21. Reinitialize each auto-up power window and check the anti-pinch function.


Refer to the Electronic Service Manual (ESM), section PWC-Power WIndow Control
System.

22. Inform the customer that some of the navigation memory settings may need to be reset.
