2011 – 2014 MURANO CROSS CABRIOLET
FOLDING ROOF (SOFT TOP) UPPER AND LOWER LINKAGE
ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

2011 – 2014 Murano Cross Cabriolet (Z51)

SERVICE INFORMATION
This bulletin contains the procedure to replace the folding roof lower linkage assemblies
(lower links) and the folding roof upper linkage assemblies (upper links).

NOTE: For 2011 and 2012 Murano Cross Cabriolet, it is recommended that you check
Service Comm for campaign P1261/NTB12-003. If the campaign has not been performed,
it should be performed before returning the vehicle to the customer.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

During this procedure, the soft top will need to be operated several times.
NOTE:


Do not operate the soft top in temperatures below 32°F (0°C).



If the vehicle is in an area with temperatures below 32°F (0°C), move it to an
area with temperature above 32°F (0°C) and wait for the vehicle to adapt to the
warmer temperature.



If the soft top is operated in temperatures below 32°F (0°C) the soft top material
may not stow correctly.

CAUTION: Before operating the soft top, make sure:


The engine is running; keep the engine running while operating the soft top.



There is 5 feet of horizontal clearance behind the rear bumper.



There is 10 feet of vertical clearance from the ground above the vehicle.



The luggage cover is pulled out and hooked so the roof storage area is
separate from the trunk area.



The trunk is closed.



Top is clean; free from water, snow, sand, or other debris.



Rear window defroster is turned OFF.



Vehicle is in an area with temperatures above 32°F (0°C).

NOTE:


Photos and instructions in this procedure are for the left side (driver side)
unless otherwise stated.



Links should be replaced as pairs; both upper links and/or both lower links.



When replacing the right side lower link or upper link, follow the steps in this
procedure, keeping in mind that the photos are of the left side. The right side is a
mirror image.

Replacement of Folding Roof Lower Linkage (Lower Link) Assembly
NOTE:


Use protective covers as needed for interior and exterior surfaces while performing
this Service Procedure.



Exploded views are provided on pages 33 through 37 as reference while performing
this procedure.



If an upper link is being replaced, the lower link must be removed first.



Replace both links, one side at a time.

Recommendation: The following will be very helpful for reassembly:


Pay close attention to the location and fit of all parts during removal.



Keep all screws, clips, pins, and nuts separated so their reassembly location can be
easily identified.

1. Remove the interior rear side finisher.


Refer to the Electronic Service
Manual (ESM), Section INT-Interior,
for rear side finisher removal
information.

2. Partially open the soft top as follows:
a. Set the parking brake.
b. Start the engine.
c. Keep the transmission in Park.
d. Operate the soft top until it is at
approximately the position shown in
Figure 2.

e. Turn the ignition OFF.

WARNING: During step 3, oil pressure in the soft top system may drop low enough to
allow the top to move. Keep fingers and other body parts safely away from areas that could
result in injury.

3. Remove the pin shown in Figure 3, and
then reinstall it in the opposite direction
as follows:

a. Remove the push-on nut.

b. Remove the pin.

c. Re-install the pin in the opposite
direction as shown.


NOTE: This pin must be temporarily
reinstalled in the opposite direction
so that the soft top can be
operated. This pin will be removed
later in the procedure.

4. Partially open the soft top as follows:
a. Set the parking brake.
b. Start the engine.
c. Keep the transmission in Park.
d. Operate the soft top until it is in the
position shown in Figure 6.
e. Turn the ignition OFF.

5. Remove the down stopper as follows:

a. Look down in the area just in front
of the rear rail.

b. Locate the down stopper with felt
cloth tape on top of it.

c. Remove the felt cloth tape.
NOTE:
 For reassembly, use new felt cloth
tape. Use two strips about 1 inch long
side by side.

Information.

Cloth loop
10. Take the soft top cover loose from the
front corner.


The cover has a cloth loop that is
helpful in pulling the cover loose
from the corner.

11. Remove felt cloth tape covering the
end of the soft top cover outer wire.

 Use new felt cloth tape - about 1.5 inch
long strip.
