Removal of the Variable Speed Water Pump

Remove as follows:
1. Drain the coolant.
2. Disconnect the batteries.
NOTICE: Do not attempt to remove the water pump pulley from the water pump when it is still mounted to the oil
coolant module or permanent damage could occur.
WARNING: PERSONAL INJURY
To avoid injury to hands and fingers from the spring-loaded auto belt tensioner violently snapping
back, do not cut the belt to remove it.
3. Remove the poly-V belt. Refer to section "Removal of the Poly-V-Belts" .
4. Disconnect the speed sensor and power supply connectors.
5. Remove nine bolts (1) from the water pump (2) and from the oil coolant module (4).

6. Remove water pump (2) and seal (3) from the oil coolant module (4).

Installation of the Variable Speed Water Pump

Install as follows:
1. Install the water pump seal (3) to the water pump (2).

Install the water pump (2) to the oil coolant module (4) with nine bolts (1) and torque to 30 N·m (22 lb·ft).
Install the three-pin connector to the speed sensor.
Install the two-pin connector to the power supply for the pump.
Install the poly-V-belt. Refer to section "Installation of the Poly-V-Belts" .
Fill the coolant system.
Reconnect the batteries.
WARNING: PERSONAL INJURY
To avoid injury before starting and running the engine, ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface,
parking brake is set, and the wheels are blocked.

WARNING: ENGINE EXHAUST (i)(eov34)
To avoid injury from inhaling engine exhaust, always operate the engine in a well-ventilated area.
Engine exhaust is toxic.
8. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.

Removal of the Variable Speed Water Pump Pulley

Remove as follows:
1. Remove the variable speed water pump from the oil coolant module. Refer to section "Removal of the Variable Speed
Water Pump" .
2. Remove the six bolts (1) securing the water pump pulley (2) to the water pump (3).
NOTICE: Prying the pulley off the water pump by applying pressure on the pump housing will cause damage to the
clutch and housing.
3. Remove pulley (2) from water pump (3) with a pulley puller using the center of the clutch face as a leverage location.

Installation of the Variable Speed Water Pump Pulley

Install as follows:
1. Install the water pump pulley (2) to the water pump (3) with six bolts (1) and finger tighten.

2. Torque the water pump pulley bolts to 18 N·m (13 lb·ft).
3. Install the variable speed water pump onto the oil coolant module. Refer to section "Installation of the Variable Speed
Water Pump" .
