1. Remove the steps and chassis fairings from both sides of the truck.
2. Remove the fairing bracket from the top step on both sides of the truck. See Figure 1.

3. Remove and discard the plastic collar and aluminum spacer shown in Figure 2.

4. Install the new top step on both sides. See Figure 3.

5. A paper drilling template for the LH Chassis Fairing Bracket is included in the kit. Align the paper template as shown
in Figure 4 and, using a backing plate to protect surrounding components, drill the holes. Install the LH Chassis
Fairing Bracket as shown in Figure 5 (three M8 bolts and nuts).

CAUTION
Use a backing plate when drilling to prevent damage to surrounding components.

6. Using the Parts Usage Matrix attached to the bulletin, select the appropriate RH Chassis Fairing Bracket.
7. Use the alignment features on the bracket, as shown in Figure 6, to determine the drilling locations. Using a backing
plate to protect surrounding components, drill the holes. Install the RH Chassis Fairing Bracket (three M8 bolts and
nuts).

CAUTION
Use a backing plate when drilling to prevent damage to surrounding components.

8. Using new hardware, reinstall the LH and RH collar support brackets (four M8 socket head screws, M8 flange nuts
and M8 flat washers per side). See Figure 7.

9. Install the front collars into the collar support brackets on both sides. A rubber mallet may be required to seat the
aluminum collars. See Figure 8.

10. Using the Parts Usage Matrix attached to the bulletin, select the appropriate Lower Rear Skirt Brackets. Replace
the bracket mounted to the fuel tank strap with a new bracket as shown in Figure 9. N11-6591 is shown in Figure
9, but the part can vary depending on vehicle configuration.

11. Install the LH and RH Chassis Fairing Isolator Brackets to the Lower Service Steps. Loosely install the bolt as
shown in Figure 10.

12. Install the LH and RH fairings using the new aluminum rear collars as shown in Figure 11.

13. Complete the installation of the Chassis Fairing Isolator Bracket (both sides) by installing to the isolator and tightening the bolt loosely installed into the lower step. See Figure 12.

14. Reinstall the step cover on both sides.

Road spray, grit and excess movement may cause the composite collars for the chassis fairing support tubes to wear down.
This could result in the chassis fairings becoming loose and rattling.

Chassis Affected
Certain model 579 vehicles built from 1/20/2012 through 4/12/2021 with rear chassis fairings that extend to the back of the
sleeper.

Action
Fix-As-Fail
If a customer comes into your dealership and demonstrates the condition above, follow the procedure below to replace the
collars and support brackets with the improved parts from the kit.

Warranty
Through Standard Warranty or any applicable Extended Warranty, Peterbilt will pay for parts at dealer net plus applicable
mark-up and labor:
1.0 hours labor to replace the collars and support brackets with the improved parts from the kit. File a long form claim
and reference 02161.
File an additional claim for extraordinary circumstances, referencing 02161. A long form claim for standard labor must
be filed first.
