NOTE:
For vehicles where a judder is still evident after performing a previous version of this Technical
Bulletin, go to Workshop Procedure 'B'.
SITUATION:
On vehicles fitted with the twin speed transfer case, a judder may be felt from underneath the vehicle
when steering at low vehicle speeds, such as turning left or right at an intersection.
CAUSE:
This may be caused by oil degradation in the twin speed transfer case.

CAUTIONS:
A Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply must be connected to the
vehicle startup battery during diagnosis / module programming.

All ignition ON/OFF requests must be carried out. Failure to perform these steps may cause
damage to control modules in the vehicle.

NOTES:
Use the Jaguar Land Rover claims submission system to check for Field Service Action
program eligibility requiring a Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) software update. If
eligible, perform and claim the update as per that program using the latest SDD software.
For vehicles where a judder is still evident after performing a previous version of this Technical
Bulletin, go to Workshop Procedure 'B'.

Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved Midtronics battery power supply to the vehicle
startup battery.

NOTE:
The Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool must be loaded with SDD153.02
Software Management Pack v294 (or later).
Connect the Jaguar Land Rover-approved diagnostic tool to the vehicle and begin a new
session.

Follow all on-screen instructions, allowing the diagnostic tool to read the VIN, identify the
vehicle, and initiating the data collect sequence.

If the hyperlink is not available:
1 Select Diagnosis from the Session Type screen.
2 Select the Selected Symptoms tab.
3 Select Powertrain - Automatic transmission and transaxle - Automatic transmission
and transaxle symptoms - Transfer case inconsistent operation
4 Run and close the 'Datalogger' tool to reveal the 'Extras' tab.
5 Select the Extras tab.
6 Select Run to perform the 'Configure existing module - Transfer case control
module' option.

Follow all on-screen instructions until the application completes successfully.
1 When prompted, select the Clear DTCs option following completion of the software
download.
2 When all tasks are complete, go to the next Step.

Exit the current session.
1 Select the Session tab.
2 Select the Close Session option.

Disconnect the diagnostic tool and battery power supply from the vehicle.
1 Go to Workshop Procedure 'A' below.

1 The road test should include maneuvering the vehicle around corners and roundabouts
in both high and low range drive where possible

Perform a vehicle road test.

in both high and low range drive where possible
If the judder is not present after the road test, do not continue with this
Technical Bulletin.
Release the vehicle to the customer.
If the judder is still present after the road test, go to step 5.

Replace the transfer case multiplate clutch assembly (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section
308-07B / C: Transfer Case - Vehicles With: Twin Speed Transfer Case - Removal and
Installation - Transfer Case Multiplate Clutch Assembly).
1 Release the vehicle to the customer.

WORKSHOP PROCEDURE 'B':

1

Flush the transfer case oil (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 308-07B / C: Transfer Case Vehicles With: Twin Speed Transfer Case - General Procedures - Transfer Case Draining and
Filling).

Replace the transfer case multiplate clutch assembly (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section
