SITUATION
Due to the high-performance nature of the HP4 Race (K60), the maintenance and diagnostic
requirements are different than standard production motorcycles. While this information can be found
in AIR, this bulletin is being provided as a summary.
1. MAINTENANCE
The annual usage of a racing motorcycle, which is only driven on racing tracks, cannot be compared
to motorcycles that have vehicle type approval. The service interval is designed such that it ideally
suited for this special purpose and that there are no restrictions for the customers at the individual
racing events. In addition, through the service interval, we ensure the safe function of the installed
"high-end components".
So, in the case of HP4 Race, after each event, a service is due once a year or every 5000 km
(whichever occurs first).
The "high-end components" installed in the HP4 Race, require maintenance work with the use of
special tools and specialist workers. Due to the exclusivity of this vehicle, these special tools cannot
be provided to BMW
Motorrad partners all over the world. Due to this, it is necessary that the
required chassis and suspension components listed in the maintenance schedule (see Annex) and
which are required for the service are dispatched to the respective base of the corresponding
component manufacturer.

2. UNIQUE FEATURES OF DIAGNOSIS AND PROGRAMMING
In the case of HP4 Race, there are some special features in diagnosis and programming.

The 2D instrument cluster cannot be individualized, diagnosed, programmed, or encoded using the
BMW
Motorrad workshop system.
In order to make those changes, software and hardware from 2D (Debus & Diebold Meßsysteme
GmbH) are required.
Engine control
The engine control can be diagnosed, programmed, and encoded using the BMW
Motorrad
workshop system.
As the vehicle does not have an ignition lock or an EWS, the following features must be noted:
At the start of an ISTA session, a pop-up appears with the following notes after successful
identification:
This motorcycle has a vehicle electrical system with limited functions:
Delete fault memory:
Do NOT use "Delete fault memory" in the control units/fault memory overview.
Use the "Delete fault memory" ("Complete vehicle" menu point) service function.
Switch ignition on/off:
After switching the ignition off, the interface is switched off. A message appears.
Wait until the interface is connected to ISTA once again after switching the ignition on
again. The "Next" button of the message is then active.
Click the "Next" button and continue with the session.
Optional accessories
OA components such as e.g. spring travel sensors cannot be diagnosed.
3. REPLACEMENT PARTS
The replacement parts are meant exclusively for HP4 Race holders, it is for this reason that the
vehicle is only visible in the EPC after entering a valid vehicle identification number.

Due to the exclusivity, the replacement parts requirement, the scope and the replacement parts
quantities for the HP4 Race (K60) deviate significantly from those of a large production series. All the
replacement parts available for the HP4 Race (K60) are listed in the Electronic Parts Catalogue.
In the case of queries regarding the replacement parts portfolio, the Retailer Organization of BMW![]()
Motorrad Support is available through TSARA (TTS) for HP4 Race (K60) as well.
4. SERVICE AND REPLACEMENT ENGINE
If in the course of routine maintenance a replacement engine is requested, please submit an IDS
ticket for engine availability information.
5. DAMAGE ASSESSMENT OF CARBON COMPONENTS
For the assessment of carbon components (motorcycle frame and wheels), the repair and
maintenance notes given in the Aftersales Information Research (AIR) must be followed.
6. BRAKE FLUID
From the factory, the HP4 Race is delivered with Brembo
Racing LCF 600 plus brake fluid.
BMW
Motorrad recommends the use of this brake fluid (see Annex for the specification), which can
only be procured through specialist shops.

requirements are different than standard production motorcycles. While this information can be found

2. UNIQUE FEATURES OF DIAGNOSIS AND PROGRAMMING
In the case of HP4 Race, there are some special features in diagnosis and programming.
2D instrument cluster
The 2D instrument cluster cannot be individualized, diagnosed, programmed, or encoded using the
