SITUATION
This following situation only affects PHEV vehicles.
Check control message 136 “Left brake/rear light faulty”.
The CID displays “Left brake light faulty. Have it checked by your nearest authorized BMW Service
workshop. See Owner's Handbook for further information.”
The rear brake light will continue to work without error.
The following fault code will be stored:
804883 Left rear light: Faulty or line disconnection

CAUSE
Depending on vehicle voltage demand, a voltage drop may occur to the left taillight, causing a check control
message without any functional defect of the light.

CORRECTION
Rework the left taillight wiring harness using adapter harness P/N 61 11 5A3C023.

PROCEDURE
1. Referencing ISTA repair instructions REP 63 21 275, complete the preliminary steps (1-3) only to gain
access to the left taillight. It is not necessary to completely remove the taillight.
2. Unplug the connection to the left taillight.
3. Familiarize yourself with the connector identification (A or B) of the adapter harness P/N 61 11
5A3C023 as shown below.

4. Plug connector A into the taillight.
5. Plug connector B into the vehicle harness leading to the taillight.
6. Secure the adapter harness to the vehicle harness as shown below using 2 cable ties P/N 61 13 8 383 722.
Note: failure to secure the cable as shown will result in noise and future damage.

7. Wrap the connector shown below using an appropriate felt tape such as P/N 61 13 6 920 760:

8. Delete the fault memory and retest the vehicle.

other eligible and covered repair work being performed, claim this work with the applicable defect code and
the labor operations that are listed in AIR (including the diagnosis).
