General Information
The Western Star
perpendicular air tank bracket (part number WWS 71103-3445) has been discontinued and
replaced with a new design (part number 12-27543-000). When upgrading to the new perpendicular air tank
bracket, new air tank mounting straps and hardware are also required. Two additional holes must be back
drilled through the frame rail.
Parts
Parts are available through the parts distribution center (PDC). For required parts, refer to Table 1 or Table 2
depending on the vehicle configuration.

Removal
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires.
2. Drain the air from the vehicle.
NOTE: Do not disconnect the air lines from the air tanks.
3. Remove the four tank strap bolts from the lower air tank, and lower the tank to the ground. The tank will
hang from the air lines.

4. Remove the four tank strap bolts from the upper air tank and secure the tank out of the way to the frame
rail.
5. Remove the four air tank bracket mounting bolts and remove air tank mounting bracket from the vehicle.
Installation
Refer to Fig. 1 for this procedure.

1. Align the lower four holes of the new bracket with the existing frame holes and install the four mounting
bolts. Hand tighten the four bolts.
2. Mark the two top holes that need to be drilled.
3. Remove the four mounting bolts and the new bracket.
4. Verify that no lines or wiring harnesses are in the way.
5. Using a 13.5 mm (17/32 inch) bit, drill the top two holes through the frame rail.
6. Install the bracket and hand tighten the six mounting bolts. Tighten the fasteners 64 lbf·ft (87 N·m).

7. Install both upper tank strap brackets onto the mounting bracket. Tighten the fasteners 28 lbf·ft (38 N·m).
8. Install both lower tank strap brackets onto the mounting bracket. Tighten the fasteners 28 lbf·ft (38 N·m).
9. Install the upper tank onto the mounting bracket. Tighten the reaction joint clamp bolts 26 lbf·ft (35 N·m).
10. Install the lower tank onto the mounting bracket. Tighten the reaction joint clamp bolts 26 lbf·ft (35 N·m).
