Headlamp Condensation and Fogging
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing updated vent caps on the headlamp assembly.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: North
America.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customers may experience the following:
• One or both of the vehicle’s headlamp assemblies are fogged with a light layer of condensation
on the inside of the lenses.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Diagnostic Procedure.
NOTE: The diagnosis needs to be performed in a warm shop with low humidity.
1. Bring the vehicle into the shop, turn on the headlamps (high beams) and hazard warning lamps.
Let the vehicle run for 20 minutes.

NOTE: If the condensation/fogging has begun to clear from the lamp lenses after 20 minutes
of lamp operation, the headlamp assembly seal is not defective and the headlamp
assembly does not need to be replaced. The figures below are examples of good
(Fig. 1) and faulty (Fig. 2) headlamp assemblies.

NOTE: Headlamp assemblies that have physical damage, such as a crack or a hole, or that
have been dissembled and modified to install color changing LEDs are NOT covered
under the provisions of the warranty.
2. Did both headlamp lenses start to clear (Fig. 1) ?
• YES>>> Replace the vent caps. Proceed to Step 1 of the Repair Procedure.
• NO>>> Proceed to Step 3 of the Diagnosis Procedure.
3. If one headlamp assembly cleared and the other still has heavy condensation in it, only install
the vent caps on the assembly that cleared up. Proceed to Step 1 of the Repair Procedure. The
headlamp that still has condensation with no clearing in it will need to be replaced. Use
normal Service Information and normal warranty process and procedures.
NOTE: Replacement headlamp assemblies will already have the updated vent caps
installed.

include the updated (brown) vent caps.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the headlamp assembly. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT> Service Library> 8L - Lamps and Lighting / Lamps/Lighting - Exterior / Unit,
Front Lamp/Removal.
2. Remove and discard the old vent caps by pulling them rearward off the headlamp assembly
(Fig. 3) .

3. Install the new (brown) vent caps by pushing them on the bosses of the headlamp assembly.
4. Install the headlamp assembly. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT> Service Library>08 - Electrical/8L - Lamps and Lighting/Lamps/Lighting Exterior/Unit, Front Lamp/Installation.

NOTE: When installing vent caps on one side only and replacing the other headlamp, the
install one side only LOP requires the use of headlamp replacement related LOP
08-50-31-50 (Check Quick LOP for car line specific labor time).
Fascia removal and install time is already included in each vent cap replace LOP
shown above.
