Technical Background
DTC P1A58 NOx Catalytic Converter Regeneration required.

Service
Before starting NOx catalytic converter regeneration, check thermostat operation: Road test 6 miles on the freeway
and monitor MVB 46/2. If temp drops below 87ºC replace the thermostat. Then perform NOx converter regeneration.
To make sure the desulfurization via regeneration goes as quickly and successfully as possible, please pay attention
to the following:


Guided Functions: Select Service regeneration for NOx cat converter.



Drive with constant speed of 70... 120 km/h (40... 75 mph).



To do so, use the Cruise Control if available.



Avoid abrupt accelerations and deceleration, as this prevents correct regeneration of the NOx Storage
Catalyst.



The regeneration takes approx. 40 - 50 minutes.

Good driving conditions are:
 Low-traffic country road/highway


Level roads



Very constant driving cycle



Drive with cruise control



Engine rpm between 1900 - 2400



Select 4th/5th gear (depending on speed)

Poor conditions are:
 A lot of traffic / city traffic


Mountain roads



Constant acceleration / braking



Inconsistency with accelerator pedal position.
