Introduction

Some 2019 – 2021 model year Avalon and Avalon Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a condition where
the driver side and/or passenger side LED parking lights do not fully illuminate when the headlight
switch and the engine are on and the vehicle is in reverse. Follow the Repair Procedure in this
bulletin to address this condition.

This bulletin applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs
shown below.


All 2019 – 2020 model year Avalon and Avalon Hybrid vehicles.



 This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
 Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

Repair Procedure

1. Taking ALL safety precautions, confirm the condition exists.
CAUTION
It is recommended this step be completed by two technicians as the vehicle engine will be
ON and the vehicle will be in reverse.
NOTE
As the condition is intermittent, repeat step 1 three times to ensure the condition exists.

Do the driver side AND passenger side LED parking lights fully illuminate when the headlight
switch and the engine are ON and the vehicle is in reverse?



YES — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
NO — Continue to step 2.

2. Remove BOTH headlight assemblies.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:


2019 – 2021 Avalon and Avalon HV:
Vehicle Exterior – Lighting (Ext) – “Lighting (Ext) Headlight Assembly: Removal”

3. Perform the following action on BOTH headlight assemblies:
Uninstall the Full Beam Driver (FBD) module from the headlight assembly.
NOTICE
Place the headlight assembly on a clean and soft surface so the bottom of the light is
exposed, and the lens is NOT damaged.

A. Identify the FBD module on the
headlight assembly.

B. Using a standard T20 screwdriver,
remove the three T20 screws from the
FBD module.

C. Remove the FBD module from the
headlight assembly.

NOTICE
Do NOT stress the wires
when disassembling.

D. Depress the connector locking tab and
pull it away from the FBD module.

4. Install the NEW FBD module.

A. Confirm the FBD module seal position
on the NEW FBD module.

body along its full seal mounting
surface (diameter).

C. Flip the FBD module over as shown.
Ensure to leave enough hand space
for the connector installation.

D. Plug the harness into the NEW
FBD module.

Listen for a click and pull slightly on
the connector to ensure it is FULLY
seated and locked in place.

E. Place the NEW FBD module into the
headlight assembly.

Ensure there are NO wire harness
wires trapped between the FBD
module and the headlight assembly
mounting feature.

the FBD module to the

NOTE
AFTER installing the headlight assembly, ensure ALL applicable Repair Manual procedures are
followed (e.g., Initialization Procedure, Headlight Aiming Procedure, etc.).

6. Confirm the condition is no longer present.
