number of U.S. vehicles involved is approximately 2,486. Please see the
attached bulletin for details.

Involved vehicles are marked “open” on the Investigate Vehicle History screen in GM Global Warranty Management
system. This site should always be checked to confirm vehicle involvement prior to beginning any required inspections
and/or repairs.
Condition

Correction

General Motors has decided to conduct a Voluntary Emission Recall involving certain 2020 Buick Encore
vehicles. Certain vehicles may have a blockage of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) passage in
the camshaft cover. If a vehicle has this condition, crankcase pressure may progressively increase to
the point where it could cause the engine to run roughly, the malfunction indicator lamp (check engine
light) to illuminate and engine damage to occur.
Dealers are to inspect the camshaft cover and replace if a blockage is present in the PCV passage.

1.

Inspect the EUN (Engine Unit Number) Julian date and the certification marks on the camshaft cover:
1.1. If the Julian date is between 281 – 305 (1), and there is no certification mark on the cover (2) (3), replace the
camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement in SI.
1.2. If the Julian date is between 281 – 305 (1), and one or both certification marks are on the cover (2) (3), no further
action is required. Both certification marks do not need to be present.

CALIFORNIA VEHICLES ONLY: Complete a “Proof of Correction” certificate and provide to the vehicle owner upon
recall completion.

Dealer Responsibility
All new, used, GM Certified Used, courtesy transportation vehicles, dealer shuttle vehicles, etc. in dealers' possession
and subject to this recall must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this bulletin before customers
take possession of these vehicles. Involved vehicles must be held and not delivered to customers, dealer-traded,
released to auction, used for demonstration, or any other purpose.
All GM Certified Used vehicles currently in the dealers’ inventory within the Certified Pre-Owned Inventory System
(CPOIS) will be de-certified and must be held and remedied per the service procedure in this bulletin. Upon submitting
an accepted/paid warranty transaction in the Global Warranty Management (GWM) system, the vehicle can be re-certified
for sale within the CPOIS system, or once again be used in the CTP program.
Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this recall at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle,
or ownership, from this time forward.
Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer
information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the
required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. A copy of the customer letter is provided in this
bulletin for your use in contacting customers. Recall follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the
customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.
In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this field action enters your vehicle inventory you must take the steps
necessary to ensure the program correction has been made before selling the vehicle. In addition, for vehicles entering
your facility for service, you are required to ensure the customer is aware of the open field action and make every
reasonable effort to implement the program correction as set forth in this bulletin prior to releasing the vehicle.

When a California emissions recall is completed by a GM dealer, the dealer must provide the vehicle owner a “Proof of
Correction Certificate” which the owner may need to present to the California Department Of Motor Vehicles (DMV) when
renewing their vehicle registration. Without this correction certificate, the owner may be unable to renew their vehicle
registration.
Additional Certificates can be obtained, at no charge, from the 1Store application in GlobalConnect. Request GM Item
Number 1825 when ordering.
Dealer Reports
For dealers with involved vehicles, a listing has been prepared and will be available through GM GlobalConnect Maxis
Field Action Reports or sent directly to export dealers. The Inventory tab of the dealer reports will contain VINs that
apply to this recall. This information is intended to assist dealers with the PROMPT COMPLETION of these
vehicles. The Customer In-Service tab will contain customer names and addresses from Motor Vehicle Registration
Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any purpose other than follow-up necessary to complete
this recall may be a violation of law in several states.
Courtesy Transportation – For USA & Canada
Courtesy transportation is available for customers whose vehicles are involved in a product program and still within the
warranty coverage period. See General Motors Service Policies and Procedures Manual for courtesy transportation
program details.

inspection test if the recall work is not completed.
Export - Letters will be sent to known owners of record located within areas covered by the US National Traffic and Motor
Vehicle Safety Act. For owners outside these areas, dealers should notify customers using the attached sample letter.

Dear General Motors Customer:
This notice is sent to inform you that General Motors is conducting a voluntary emission recall that includes your
vehicle.
Reason For This Recall: Your 2020 model year Buick Encore GX vehicle, equipped with a 1.2 Liter turbo engine,
may be equipped with a cam cover with a blocked PCV passage that violates California and Federal standards and
regulations.
What Will Be Done: Your GM dealer will inspect, and if necessary, replace your camshaft cover. This service will be
performed for you at no charge. Eligibility for this service will not be denied solely due to your Buick Encore GX vehicle
having non-GM parts or repairs performed by outlets other than a GM franchised dealer.
How Long Will The Repair Take? Because of service scheduling requirements, it is likely that your dealer will need
your vehicle longer than the actual service correction time of approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes.
What You Should Do: Please contact your GM dealer as soon as possible to arrange a service date and to assure
parts availability. Instructions for making this correction have been sent to your dealer. Please ask your dealer if you
wish to know how much time will be needed to schedule, process, and repair your vehicle.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) requires vehicle emission recalls be completed prior to California
registration renewal. Uncorrected emission recalls will result in the inability to renew your California vehicle registration.
At the time of emission recall completion, your California dealer will issue a "Proof of Correction Certificate". Keep this
certificate and, if required, present it to the Department of Motor Vehicles when renewing your California registration as
proof of recall completion.
