Effective on repair orders opened on or after December 1, 2020, the new
submission time limit is changed to 60 days from 180 days (exceptions
indicated below). All warranty claim submissions, appeals, and claim
corrections must be completed within 60 days from the repair order open date.
All claim types that are incomplete beyond the 60-day time limit may not be
submitted, appealed, or corrected.
Exceptions:

CHRISTMAS EVE AND
CHRISTMAS DAY
December 24 & 25th
NEW YEARS DAY
January 1, 2021

Any claims that were opened prior to December 1, 2020 retain the 180-day
time limit.
If a longer time period for claim submission, correction, review, and/or
appeal is required by law (please reference your state dealer statutes).
If repair completion is delayed due to backordered parts preventing timely
claim submission within the 60-day time limit, all supporting
documentation must be retained and uploaded to the PRC when warranty
claim is submitted. Once submitted, contact the Warranty Hotline who will
review and process approved claim.

TIPS FOR SERVICING THE CVT TRANSMISSION
Just as we replace the oil filter when performing an oil change, we might consider replacing the
cartridge filter when servicing the CVT transmission. A clogged filter can cause over temp of the
transmission, as well as, reduced line pressure required for correct operation. The F/W1CJA
transmissions filter is located behind the fluid cooler. F/W1CJC and F1CJB transmissions have a
cannister mounted on the transmission to house the filter. See illustrations below for the filter
locations.

Proper transmission service requires that the pan be removed, the pan and magnets be cleaned,
as well as, any debris removed from the screen. Once the pan is reinstalled, and the filter
element shown above has been changed, the transmission fluid should be filled, and level
checked according to the procedures outlined in the service manual. An over filled or under filled
transmission can be a cause for drivability concerns as this can cause cavitation of the pump
and/or foaming of the fluid.

APPLE CARPLAY TOUCHPAD INOPERATIVE
In the latest OS version “iOS 14.2” for iPhone, the “tap to select/enter” function does not respond
on the Apple CarPlay screen. This concern may independent to the iPhone.
Due to the specification changes implemented in iOS 14.2 by Apple, this concern may be caused
when the transmission data signal from the vehicle’s touch pad is received by the iPhone; but,
the transmission from the iPhone is not transmitted back to the Audio unit.
Because the concern is within the iOS developed by Apple, customers may need to wait for Apple
to release an update that potentially addresses this. Currently, Apple has not announced a
schedule for future updates.

In some situations, the following steps have restored function and should be completed:
Update iOS to the latest version (Settings-> General -> Software Update)
Disable Apple CarPlay and then restart the iPhone (Settings -> General -> CarPlay)
Enable Apple CarPlay (Settings -> General -> CarPlay)
If these steps do not resolve the condition, advise the customer that Apple has not released an
official update schedule for this concern.

BATTERY DRAW DIAGNOSTIC RECOMMENDATION
Aftermarket devices are becoming more and more common in our vehicles and inspecting for
them should be considered part of the diagnostic process. Recently we have seen cases where
the battery would go dead after sitting for more than a day or two. Upon checking the system,
the technician finds that there is a quiescent current draw of around 400mA. Two recent cases
resulted in the technician discovering a GPS device wired into the interior lighting harness and
hidden in the headliner near the overhead lights. It was confirmed that the aftermarket installed
devices were the culprit.

BEHIND THE SCENES SPOTLIGHT
We hope you are enjoying the Behind the Scenes Spotlight, where a member working behind the
scenes at MMNA is introduced. This month we are happy to introduce, Cuong Nguyen,

Techline Specialist II :

My 18-year career in the automotive industry began after leaving the Military in 2001. I began
working for independent shops as a Smog Technician in California and continued this until
several years later when I joined a Honda Dealership as a Technician. Initially, this position was
intended to be just a short stint; but lasted 15 years. Those years of wrenching began to take a
toll on me physically, so I began to explore other automotive opportunities and landed as a
Service Advisor at Volvo. After two years, a great opportunity presented itself at Mitsubishi and I
just recently celebrated my one-year anniversary. Every day provides an opportunity to learn
more about the brand.
During my spare time, I enjoy fishing, hunting, camping and just being in the great outdoors.

IMPORTANT
Affected new or used vehicle inventory must be repaired before the vehicle is sold or delivered.
Dealers must check their vehicle inventory VINs on the Warranty Superscreen to verify whether
the vehicle is involved in a recall campaign.
It is a violation of Federal Law for a dealer to sell or deliver a new motor vehicle or any new /
used motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by the notification under a sale or lease until
the defect or non-compliance is remedied.

 The first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade had
Central Park Zoo animals. The Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day Parade was originally called
The “Macy’s Christmas Parade” to kick off the
Holiday shopping season. Held in 1924, the first
Parade included monkeys, bears, camels, and
Elephants borrowed from the zoo instead of the
Traditional character balloons we know today.

Those who don’t know the past of

how it got its name; but, not how
it became a hot spot in Nashville’s
nightlife. The dry days of
the Prohibition era were
accompanied by lawless nights of
gambling and cocktails — all under
the protection of the police. When
liquor again became legal,
nightclubs opened and acted as
host to names such as The
Supremes, Jimi Hendrix and Boots
Randolph. There’s much more
history here, so if you’re ever near
Nashville, be sure to visit.

 Christmas Stockings come from this story: A poor man, with three daughters
couldn’t afford the dowry to have them married. One night, St. Nicholas dropped
a bag of gold down the man’s chimney so that his oldest daughter would be able
to get married, and the bag fell into a stocking that was drying by the fire.

 The tradition of kissing someone at midnight is likely rooted in German and
English folklore. The belief was that the first person you encountered at the start
of the New Year determined your fortunes in the year ahead. Over time, people
decided to be proactive about it, making sure they kissed someone they knew
and liked at the start of the year.
 The dropping of the New Year Ball is a pretty new tradition that started in 1907.
Though currently the ball is made of Waterford Crystal, it was originally made of
iron and wood.
